Pam Murphy and LInda Shaver

The PebbleCreek Quilting Organization proudly celebrates and displays the fabric creations of Pam Murphy and Linda Shaver in the Creative Arts Center. While both quilters have different approaches to quilting, they both love vibrant colors, fresh ideas, and the camaraderie they share with fellow quilters.

Pam Murphy loves “improv” quilting, meaning that she might have a thought or direction in mind, but not necessarily a pattern. She commented, “I like the journey better than the destination. I like to experiment and finishing is an option.” Pam also creates “made fabric.” She sews together scraps of fabric to make a larger piece that she incorporated into her famous Christmas stockings and table runners. Pam leans towards reds, oranges, and purples.

Linda Shaver is a “pattern lady.” Linda began quilting about 25 years ago after her youngest went to college. She commented, “I am pretty much self-taught and watched a lot of videos long before YouTube appeared on the Internet.” Linda loves whimsical patterns, especially her bunny pillow and wonky houses quilt.

Both Pam and Linda are members of the West Valley Quilt Study Group, an organization that studies historical quilts. Linda and Pam commented, “Everything that we are doing today was done before; we are learning from quilters who sewed by hand 200 years ago.” At an event, Linda won an antique quilt top from the early 1800s and is in the process of finishing it.

Kudos to Pam and Linda. Their quilting styles and approach are different, yet opposites attract and they complement each other!
