Here we go again! I swear I just wrote an article for the Post yesterday. Have you noticed how quickly time passes by nowadays? When we were younger it took forever for our birthday to come around. Now … didn’t I have one two months ago? Sure seems that way! The only good thing about time passing by so quickly is the things I love to do happen much more frequently—or so it seems—and that’s OK by me!
Of course, keeping busy really helps the time go by and while I don’t get outside as often as before, I still stay busy. Cards on Thursdays and Saturdays and club tournaments four days a week, plus I still love my two evening pool leagues. That new BCA league on Thursday nights is going to be a really good test of my abilities. And … the Tuesday APA league is still fun although not as challenging.
We need to challenge ourselves to improve in pool. Running drills is nice, but the repetition is boring. Every time you play against an unknown opponent your senses should heighten and your mind should tell you to follow your routine for the best results. My two biggest problems are I see the table layout fairly quickly and I tend to rush through it. My other problem is keeping my stupid head down through the shot. When I do those two things correctly, I’m a tough out. When I don’t I’m easy to beat.
That said: Don’t be slow, but keep to your routine and … keep your head down!
Due to a clerical error (I inadvertently tossed out the sheet from May with some old crossword puzzles) I am unable to report who actually won which tournaments BUT … I do know without a doubt that the Player of the Month for May was Lynn Warren. My apologies to those individuals who did not receive kudos for their accomplishments, but you all know who you are and that is the important thing. I promise not to toss out this month’s sheet so I can report more accurately next month.
