Unit 8 August Ladies’ Luncheon

The ladies of Unit 8 had a terrific luncheon at Eagle’s Nest in August. As always, we shared great camaraderie, and the restaurant provided friendly service and excellent food. We vary the restaurant each month, so the dates may change based on the availability of the selected restaurant. Newcomers to and long-time residents of Unit 8 are all welcome to join us—we have a great time! For more information about Unit 8 activities, please contact Jane Holdcroft at [email protected].

Unit 34 Remembers 9/11

Bob Young

The 9/11 attacks have been described by many as the deadliest terrorist act in human history and remains the deadliest incident for both firefighters and law enforcement personnel in the history of the United States. Unit 34 remembered the 9/11 attacks  by placing a specially designed patriotic flag holder in front of all 56 homes in our Unit. The flags were displayed during the weekend to remember and honor the people who suffered and served our country during and after this tragic event and to never forget the Sept. 11 attacks of 2001.

The holder is very special. Andy Gardner, one of our residents, collects 12 oz. soda and beer cans that are discarded in our community. We take the cans and remove the tabs off the cans to be recycled. Then we spray the tops of the cans red, white, or blue, put them in a patriotic “koozie,” then place an American flag between the “koozie” and the can. Our Unit does this on many other special patriotic days.

If you would like to know more about the project and how you can have a special display for your home or unit, please contact Bob Young at [email protected].

Unit 58 Men’s Breakfast

For the men of Unit 58, as far as breakfast goes, our motto is “time munches on.” And so it goes, month after month we continue to meet, each time a slightly different group. In August, we convened at the friendly surroundings of Eagle’s Nest restaurant. As usual, a good time and good food was enjoyed by all.
