Sue White
On Friday, October 31 participants in both Water Fitness classes dressed for Halloween in the water. Both Carol and Sue played spooky music to add to the camaraderie and fun. For those of you who have not tried these classes, please come and join us. The following explains benefits of the class, format and equipment needed.
Water Fitness classes help to improve cardio respiratory systems and improve flexibility. Water supports the body for ease of movement without jolt or impact, yet provides 12 times more resistance to movement in all directions. This even resistance promotes muscle strength, tone and balance. The average person will burn between 450 to 700 calories in a one hour class.
In our classes we have been doing intervals as a segment in every class, which we call tAQUAta. It is one of the most effective types of high intensity interval training (HiiT). Mixing the format with the properties of water through a variety of simple yet intense exercises allows each class to blast away the calories and increase resting metabolic rate. If your goal is muscle tone, weight loss, cross training or just some fun, you will love it! As the water provides buoyancy you can do power moves without the impact to joints. The water and hand buoys also provide added resistance.
One tAQUAta is doing one exercise only, standing in same place in pool for four minutes with eight cycles. The exercise is done for 20 seconds followed by a 10 second rest. This repeats eight times for a total of four minutes. After that tAQUATa is complete, it is followed by two minutes of moderate intensity. (An example of an exercise we use is high knee jog with dog paddle arms.)
Equipment used in class includes hand buoys, a noodle and an Aqua Bar. If you only have a noodle, and just want to try the class, we can provide information on where to purchase the other equipment.
Come and join us, make new friends, have fun and most of all improve your health!
