The Fellowship Committee of PebbleCreek Community Church arranged for 27 women to enjoy high tea at The Spicery in historic downtown Glendale. This 1895 venue proudly calls itself “Glendale’s Original Tearoom.” The featured breads, quiches, desserts, and comfort classics are all made in-house with Founder Martha Campbell’s original recipes, carefully curated ingredients, and a dash of something special.
Of course, half the fun of attending high tea is getting dressed for the occasion. As the photo depicts, fancy frocks, fun hats, and fascinators were the order of the day. Many attendees even donned their best pair of white gloves for the festivities. Our hostesses thoughtfully decorated each table with decor to compliment the restaurant’s antique china and teacups. They also treated each lady to a gift bag which everyone needed for their take-home goodies. By the time we were served the fourth course of the preset menu, we were full to the brim. This 90-minute experience allowed plenty of time for conversation, laughter, and shared stories and was most conducive to celebrating our friendship and fellowship. The service was outstanding and the specially-brewed flavored teas were excellent. The Royal High Tea event definitely treated us all like royalty so we look forward to returning next May.
