Pets of the Month: Buddy and Weily Are Snowbirds

Buddy and Welly

Hello! Our names are Buddy (brown) and Weily (grey/blue). We are Abyssinians, one of the oldest breeds of domestic cat. Buddy is 12 years old, and Weily is 10 years old.

We are new to PebbleCreek since May 2021. We love our Arizona house just as much as our California house, as each one offers something very special. Yes, we are snowbirds like our mom, Kathy Erlick, (with no snow involved) and are great travelers. When we see our two crates come out, we know we are going to someplace fun, and we jump right in! However, when we see only one crate—someone is going to the vet—then we run and hide!

In our PebbleCreek house, we have the luxury of so much space to run around indoors, including chasing sunbeams from window to window as the sun moves around our home throughout the day. We absolutely love to watch all the varieties of birds and things we do not see in our California house, such as bunnies. Those are about the same size as us, as we are only about nine pounds ourselves! They are weird critters, as they stare at us through the sliding door, and we do not quite know what to do with them.

With the birds, we chirp at them as much as we can, as we would really like to catch one. However, the roadrunners, owls, hawks, and eagles are much bigger than us, so that is a bit scary. We are used to much smaller birds in our California house.

In our PebbleCreek home, we saw a coyote on our patio one time as we were staring through the glass sliding door. This was not so much fun, as we froze in our steps and fluffed all of our hair up as big as we could get. This was a very scary experience for us. In our California house, we are leash-trained and go outside with our mom for the afternoon sun (leashed and guarded). We really do not want to go outside at our PebbleCreek home, as those coyotes are very scary to us. We do not even ask to go out in our Arizona house—we’re good inside!

Weily was named after Wile E. Coyote, from the roadrunner cartoon. This was because he is the color of a coyote, grey on the top and tan on the belly. Spelled differently, but it is his namesake.

Buddy just finished two years of chemo and is now cancer-free as of three months ago! He is doing great!

We are both microchipped; our collars have tags with our names and phone numbers on them; and we hope to stay indoors 100% of the time!
