PebbleCreek’s Big Dogs will be making another appearance in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom on Monday, April 29. The ‘Dogs are a seven piece horn band made up of mostly PebbleCreek residents that formed about seven months ago and officially launched in November. They specialize in dance-oriented, toe tappin’, head bobbin’ songs that PebbleCreekers grew up with.
Last year, Bob Wikstrom, along with fellow Big Dog Brian Wentz, both from the Seattle area, went on a hunt in PebbleCreek for other musicians who had similar musical tastes. The goal was to put together a band that would offer friends and neighbors a style of music that was, for the most part, missing in PebbleCreek. “There are so many great musicians and bands performing in our community,” said Wikstrom. “We didn’t want to duplicate their sound. Our intent was to offer a genre that would fill a void—a little funk, some R&B, some disco, Motown, Pop—songs that people know and would love to dance to.”
The Big Dog song list consists of many tunes from groups like Chicago; Earth, Wind & Fire; Average White Band; and Tower of Power, plus groups that came out of “Hitsville USA” (the Motown sound). They throw in some ’50s songs (think Jerry Lee Lewis), and even some swing music and great memory-making ballads.
The band is made up of Bob Wikstrom—Hammond organ, keyboards and vocals, Brian Wentzlead—guitar and vocals, Doug Harris—drums/cowbell, Jeff Buda—tenor sax, Jim Ledford—bass guitar, Teddi English—trumpet and flugelhorn, and Mike Perkins—tenor sax, baritone sax, and vocals.
The April 29 show and dance begins at 6 p.m. in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom. The doors and bar open at 5:30 p.m. So … get your groove on and plan for an evening of dancing and fun. There’s a $5 cover charge at the door. Visit us online at bigdogsband.com.
