PC Players Plans Ahead for Spring 2021: You Can’t Take It with You
Carrie Mataraza
The classic comedy You Can’t Take It With You, written by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman, has been a laugh-out-loud favorite since it first debuted on Broadway at the end of 1936. It played about two years on its first run, won the Pulitzer Prize for drama, and has had several terrific revivals since then, most recently in 2014. It was also a funny film directed by Frank Capra, winning an Academy Award in 1938 for Best Picture and another for Best Director. Later, in the 1980s, the comedy even had a short run as a TV series.
Now, PC Players and director Donna Gray are bringing You Can’t Take It With You to the PebbleCreek stage. The timeless comedy revolves around a lovably eccentric family and their friends who, as the saying goes, march to the beat of a different drummer and are proud of it. They spend their time collecting snakes, writing plays that are never published, taking ballet lessons, and building fireworks in their basement. There is a lot of love among these zany folks who prove the idea that doing whatever makes you happy is the way to live your life to its fullest.
The show has a large cast (nine male and seven female characters), which provides a wonderful opportunity for those who want to act. Working behind the scenes is a lot of fun, too. You could do costumes/make-up, help with set construction, work lighting and sound, join the backstage crew, or more.
Cast auditions are scheduled for Oct. 26-27. Performances will be March 10-13, 2021. Please expect more detailed information in future editions of the PebbleCreek Post and via the egroup.
Anyone interested in reading a script, email Donna Gray at [email protected] and she will send you a copy.
PebbleCreek Performing Arts Groups Look Forward to the Fall
Dave Silverstein, PAC Moderator
Throughout this past winter the PebbleCreek Singers, the Big Band, and Showtime Productions were busy rehearsing and preparing for their spring shows. They were hard at work and only weeks away from performing in our beautiful theater when they were stopped cold by the onset of COVID-19.
Sadly, instruments were put back into their cases, costumes and sets were stored away, and sheets of music were put into drawers. When the theater was closed, rehearsals came to a halt and with that came the realization that the scheduled shows for the spring would have to be postponed or cancelled. Only PC Players were fortunate enough to have their production of Our Town completed prior to the closure of the theater.
In the spirit of “the show must go on,” the PC Singers are now focusing on their annual holiday show which is scheduled to take place the first week of December.
The PC Musicians’ Big Band has postponed their show, Burst of Music XIII, until next spring (March 25-27, 2021) and Showtime will now bring Beauty and the Beast to us in the fall (November 16-21). Showtime’s musical revue We’ll Sing in the Sunshine, originally scheduled for this fall, will be moved to the spring of 2021 (April 12-17).
With everyone doing their best to maintain social distancing, the PebbleCreek performing arts groups wish you all good health in the coming days. Stay safe and plan to join us in the theater when it reopens. We look forward to performing for you and guarantee that you won’t be disappointed.

Burst of Music XIV to Be Held March 25-27, 2021
Susan Kice
Burst of Music may have been down for 2020, but it’s certainly not out! Director Jeff Buda has said that he is “pleased to announce that Burst of Music XIV will be performed in March of 2021, the 25th-27th to be exact.” As the PebbleCreek Musicians perform only one concert a year, as compared with the other Performing Arts groups, which each have two performances a year, Burst of Music XIV had to be rescheduled for next year. So, although it’s almost a year in the future, you may still want to make a note as to when it will be. Jeff assures us that Burst of Music XIV will be a bright, energetic, fun show with tunes ranging from the ’40s through the ’70s with Karen Follett doing the vocals and Bob Young returning as the always witty master of ceremonies. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Here This Fall
Laurie Farquhar
In this time of quarantines, social distancing, and frequent hand washing, there is a little good news on the horizon. The cast and crew of ShowTime’s production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast have learned that they can get the rights again to present this award-winning musical here in PebbleCreek in the fall.
ShowTime’s spring production was in its final rehearsals in March when it had to be cancelled just two weeks before opening. Despite their disappointment, everyone involved in the show understood the importance of closing the theater in order to keep our patrons and themselves safe and healthy. Sets were put in storage, costumes returned to their costume shops, tickets were refunded, and everyone said goodbyes for the summer.
Now the excitement is coming back with good news about fall dates. Director Carole Palmer says “If possible, the entire team is even more enthusiastic and committed than ever. Fabulous costumes, terrific singers, amazing actors/actresses and stunning dancers will astonish you. We’ll see you in November with our happy faces on!”
Disney’s Beauty and the Beast will run six nights from Monday, Nov. 16 to Saturday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Renaissance Theater. Tickets will go on sale at the end of October, so watch for more information about how to reserve your seats for this crazy, colorful, high-energy production.
In the meantime, Dave Silverstein, who was scheduled to direct the fall production, has graciously agreed to postpone his musical revue, We’ll Sing in the Sunshine, until next April. He will hold his auditions in October and will send out a notice soon with more information about dates for try-outs and how to obtain audition packets.
PebbleCreek Singers Looking Ahead
Diane Piehl
The spring performances for most of the performing arts groups in PebbleCreek were cancelled due to the coronavirus closures. We all scrambled to go to plan B looking ahead. The PebbleCreek Singers are happy to announce that Let There Be Music will be performed in spring of 2021. In the interim, our musical team is readying our holiday program music and we will have it in the hands of our membership before some leave for cooler climes. As a chorus, we are delighted to be able to have the summer to get ahead of the learning curve and be primed to blend our voices when we begin rehearsals again on Aug. 31.
Although our usual summer hiatus is much longer than normal, Aug. 31 will be here before we know it. In the event you wish to save the date early, mark your calendars for Wednesday, Dec. 2 through Saturday, Dec. 5, for the PebbleCreek Singers Holiday Concert.
The chorus always welcomes new members who reside in PebbleCreek. If you have an interest and want to share your talents with us, pick up an application from the club’s display outside the Eagle’s Nest Clubhouse Pro Shop. Contact Nancy Gustafson at 623-215-3292 and she will arrange to help you find the right part for your voice.
