It would seem logical that after playing 40-plus games during the Fall/Winter Season and 18 games during the Spring Season that the PebbleCreek Senior Softball Association (PCSSA) softball players would want a break from softball.
Apparently, there are not many logical softball players, because after a 10-day hiatus from the diamond, there were players who couldn’t wait to play some good old fashioned schoolyard pickup games. The Spring Season ended on May 18, and the pickup games started on May 28.
The pickup games afford players the opportunity to play different positions as well as to play alongside players who they played against during the recently concluded seasons. In addition, newly registered players have the opportunity to relive their glory playing days and to hone their skills. One other thing, and probably the most important, the harassment never stops. These games were played on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 7 and 8:30 a.m. The final games were played on June 29. During the regular seasons, players are outfitted with a uniform. The pickup game players are also neatly attired … sort of.
What is also remarkable is that these games always end up in a tie … amazing!
Here’s a typical box score from one of these games:
Runs Hits Errors
Visitors: 22 22 22
Home: 22 22 22
While the field and the players get a breather, the 30th season of PebbleCreek Senior Softball is just around the corner.
