It was a dark and stormy night. Actually, it was a cool and wet morning on February 28, when the PCSSA softball players teed off at Eagle’s Nest for their annual golf outing.
Just like the ballgames they play, golf is a serious matter for many of these players. There were many great shots and some not so great. As the day progressed, one shot that was particularly interesting was at a par three where players competed for having their ball land closest to the hole. Well, this shot was the furthest from the hole as it traveled, according to one observer, maybe ten feet. We won’t mention the golfer’s name as I promised Frank Pierce I would not do so.
After the round was completed, a great buffet was served, stories were told and raffle tickets were sold. There were some great prizes being raffled off and all was going great until one golfer suddenly realized that he had forgot to turn in the half of the raffle ticket that goes into the drawing. Well, after realizing his mistake, the player turns in his eligible tickets and the raffle continues. Guess who wins the next drawing…yep the same guy who forgot to turn in his tickets. He not only wins that prize but also another prize later on.
By now you’re wondering who this player was. Well, if this was Chicago you understand that if your name ends in a vowel you normally win. Jay Sabatello, don’t worry your name will never be revealed in this article.
All in all, a great time was had by all and we thank Derry Davison and all the volunteers he threatened with brush back pitches if they didn’t help.
Deery, a big thank you for putting on a great golf outing.
