In Passing – November 2014

Daisy Mae Mann

Daisy Mann, a former resident of PebbleCreek and mother/mother-in-law of current residents Shirley and Rex Lambert, passed away at Genesis Estrella Center in Avondale on October 4 where she had lived for the past six years. She was 84 years old.

Daisy moved to Eagle’s Nest in 2000 from Chino Valley, Arizona, after the death of her husband of 52 years, Dub. She and her daughter and son-in-law built side by side casitas so they could care for each other. That arrangement was such a blessing for both families since Daisy, Shirley and Rex were the best of friends and thoroughly enjoyed each other’s company. They had looked at a number of different active retirement community options, but only at PebbleCreek could they make this dual arrangement happen!

Daisy was born, raised and married her high school sweetheart in Polo, Missouri. She and Dub and their two kids (her son Jerry and wife Dottie live in Mesa) moved to Tempe, Arizona, in 1962 for the health of their daughter. After raising her family, Daisy worked as a technician at Motorola and at Sharona Optical.

All through her life, wherever she lived, Daisy was an active member of the Methodist Church. It would be fair to say that faith and family were the focus of her life. She especially loved playing with her grandchildren Jessica and Jake and later with her great grandkids, two year old twins Kenan and Dylan Kahraman and three year old Lucas and four year old Jack Mann.

But Daisy was also an avid reader of mysteries, a hand quilter and needle pointer, card player and Arizona Diamondback fan. And she enjoyed lunching with her PebbleCreek friends from the Unit 20 Lunch Bunch! She was loved by all who knew her and her passing leaves a big hole in many hearts.

Theresa Elizabeth Olsavicky

Theresa Elizabeth (Congelio) Olsavicky, 94, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, September 30, 2014, with her daughter Sue Ann and longtime caregiver Anna at her side. A sister, wife, mother, grandmother, world traveler, master kitchen organizer and owner of Eddie’s Fruit Basket where she was an employer to hundreds in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, she spent the past ten years enjoying the grand life living in Arizona.

Theresa was one of five children born to Luis and Susan Lazaran Congelio. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eddie and brothers Frank and Louie. She is survived by sisters Millie Shipley and Madeline Allman; children Sue Ann Olsavicky and husband Robert Hicks (Goodyear, Arizona), Virginia and husband Michael Moszkowicz (Mendon, New York), John and wife Camille DeCarlo (Uniontown, Pennsylvania), Edward Jr. and wife Carol and granddaughters Laura and Rachel (West Chester, Pennsylvania).

Married in 1944 to Edward L. Olsavicky, Sr., Theresa was first and foremost a mother to Sue Ann, Ginny, John and Eddie Jr. and later becoming a doting grandmother to Laura and Rachel, enjoying her baby breaks when the girls would visit Eddie’s Fruit Basket. Theresa could be a firm employer but helped instill strong work ethics in hundreds of local high school and college students working at the produce market and delivering tens of thousands of fruit baskets throughout 50 years of business from 1948 to 1998.

Theresa was also a leader in her community. She served as President of St Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church Altar Society and Regent, Vice Regent and District Deputy of the Catholic Daughters Court No. 505 and was the President of the Soroptimist International of Fayette County, Pennsylvania.

In her final years she continued her active lifestyle living in a house she loved in the Valley of the Sun, tending her fig tree, feeding the quail and later managing her ladies in waiting who assisted her. She will be remembered as a loving mother, baking bunny rabbit birthday cakes, late night sleepovers with her granddaughters and a whirlwind of energy keeping everyone at Eddie’s on their toes.

Memorial donations may be made to Uniontown Public Library, Uniontown, Pennsylvania.
