Share Bears Wishes You a Happy and Healthy New Year!
Nicki Forbes-Robinson
We’ve said goodbye to 2023 celebrating family, friends, the holidays, and the glorious Arizona weather. As we enter the new year, we look forward to more fun times and good health in 2024! This month, we honor Norma Klinger who is stepping back after facilitating the Share Bears Bingo games for the past 11 years. Norma was instrumental in keeping the bingo games going during the COVID-19 years and building it into the group it is today. The new facilitators are Hilda Fermin and Nicki Forbes-Robinson. Share Bears Bingo opens Fridays at 10:30 a.m. with games starting at 11 a.m. in the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom. It’s light-hearted competition—all you need is $2.50 in quarters (a quarter a game). For more information, call 949-289-5471. Come join us!
Kare Bears Health & Wellness January Events
Kathy Koncel
Start the new year off right by making your health your No. 1 priority! Take advantage of these events for PebbleCreek residents sponsored by Kare Bears.
Jan. 16, AngioScreen, Palm Room Eagle’s Nest, 8 a.m. to noon
If you could prevent a car accident by avoiding a risky intersection, you would do so. Knowing your heart attack and stroke risk can go a long way in preventing them. At this clinic, in 15 minutes, you will learn your risk for a heart attack, stroke, or vascular disease. This includes simple, noninvasive testing.
Jan. 19, CPR/AED Training, Palm Room Eagle’s Nest, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Just like you plan for a trip, it is best to plan for emergencies. You will have the opportunity to learn the latest CPR techniques and the use of the lifesaving device, the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). You never know when you will need these skills, so it is best to be prepared.
Jan. 23, Blood Drive, Palm Room Eagle’s Nest, 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
We may think that there will be blood available when it is needed, but blood cannot be manufactured. It can only come from a person who donates it. Approximately 30,000 units of blood are used in the U.S. each day, and every 2 seconds, someone in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion. Donating blood is one of the greatest gifts of kindness you can give.
A happy and healthy New Year to you from the Kare Bears Health & Wellness team!

What’s the Most Important Factor That Determines the Outcome of a Medical Emergency?
Answer: to have quality help nearby
On Jan. 2, 2023, Damar Hamlin, a 24-year-old professional football player collapsed on the field following a cardiac arrest. On Jan. 9, he was released from the hospital to continue rehab at home. He was fortunate that the healthcare professionals at the game were well trained to recognize the emergency and provided appropriate treatment immediately.
The nearest hospital to our community is Abrazo West. In recent years, Abrazo (Tenet Health) acquired what was then West Valley hospital and turned it into a Level 1 Trauma Center—a hospital that has all the specialists and facilities required to provide the highest level of care to a person following a traumatic incident. In January, Kare Bears is bringing the leadership of Abrazo West to PebbleCreek to show our community what they have done to turn this hospital around for the west valley. Come and meet the leadership team of our nearest hospital, and find out what they have to offer.
Location: Eagle’s Nest Ballroom
Date: Wednesday, Jan. 24
Time: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
No registration is necessary.
