Layne Sheridan is the Pottery/Sculpture Club Artist of the Month for July. Layne’s work will be on display in the studio window. When asked about her experience Layne said, “Last summer I was looking for an indoor activity to escape the summer heat and decided to see what was going on in the Creative Arts Center. The Pottery Club was having a beginning class in August, so I signed up. I fell in love with clay and now find myself in the studio most days.
“My work is split between functional pottery (mugs, plates, etc.) and sculpture. I especially like making dolls in both traditional stoneware clay and fiber clay. In addition to traditional glazes, I love using the dry brush technique with acrylic paints to create depth of colors.
“Everyone is friendly and helpful, and generally just fun to be around. I have learned a lot from the other club members who teach classes or offer advice on projects.”
