After an incredibly busy season on the golf course, it is time to start summer maintenance and improvement projects. Here is a list of some of the upcoming maintenance activities:
* Aerifying fairways – first with solid tines and then with hollow tines
* Greens will be aerified two times this summer with the first one scheduled for mid-June. We will give you the actual dates as soon as they are scheduled with the Pro Shops. The second aerification will be in August. The initial aerification will be with the larger tines.
* We will continue our fairway top dressing program with fairway applications scheduled for June, July and August on selected fairways.
* Getting bids to rebuild and enlarge the main tee box on No. 15 at Eagle’s Nest.
* Getting bids to replace sand in the green side bunkers on Falls-Palms. Drainage improvement and minor redesign will also be addressed.
* Getting bids to replace sand in the back nine fairway bunkers at Eagle’s Nest. Again drainage and some minor redesign will also be looked at during the process.
* At Eagle’s Nest this summer there will be a big push to improve the turf in the rough along many cart paths. These areas have been worn down by the cart traffic and need to be revitalized. The normal exit and entrance points will be moved and blocked off during the summer.
It is going to be a busy summer!
PebbleCreek hosted the annual meeting of the Arizona Golf Course Superintendents Association on April 29. It was a great success as we hosted 150 Superintendents from around the state for meetings, meals and golf. They were very impressed with our facilities and our service. Hats off to Catering and Food & Beverage for their great work. Over 80 Superintendents stayed for golf and played the Falls-Palms Courses in a mini golf tournament which was won by the home team of Paul McGinnis, Bill Barnard and Gregg Clymer.
The USGA agronomist will be out for a visit on May 14. He will review our maintenance practices, tour the golf courses and make recommendations for improvements. His observations and reports are always very helpful.
Have a great summer if you are leaving and think about us here enjoying the warm Arizona summer temperatures.
