The PebbleCreek Art Club held its first meeting of 2022 on Jan. 28 in the Coyote Room at the Creative Arts Center. One of the highlights of the meeting was the celebration of the 90th birthday of Thea Smith, who has been a member for 28 years. She and her husband now reside at Robson Reserve, but she was escorted to the meeting by Club President Sylvia Armstrong and presided over the blowing out of candles and cutting of the delicious carrot cake, which was served to the delighted group.
The business portion of the meeting included the financial report and an update of all the exciting classes and workshops that are upcoming for spring. Shoray Wolfe, who recruits and schedules instructors, and Erika Grande, who organizes and monitors the online registration of classes, listed opportunities in watercolor, acrylic, en caustic (a technique using hot wax and paint), and pastels as just some of the exciting events coming this spring. President Sylvia Armstrong also detailed some upcoming social outings and field trips, including our monthly First Friday Luncheons, a wine and art tour at Scottsdale Fashion Square, and a road trip to Wickenburg to visit the Vulture Mine.
Hilary Fiscus announced the Artists of the Month for December 2021 and January 2022. Thula Edwards was the December artist, and many examples of her fiber clay sculptures can be seen in the Creative Arts Center. January’s award went to Duane Langston. His oil paintings can also be seen at the Creative Art Center, as well as other locations.
