Hiking the Trails from Star Tower

Jan Sherwood

Where would you see a coyote, scorpion, sidewinder, thresher, and copper? The PebbleCreek Hikers found all five while hiking the trails from Star Tower in Estrella. No, they didn’t find the animals and mineral, but did hike eight trail segments, including Coyote Creek, Scorpion, Sidewinder, Thresher, and Copper State. The trails at Star Tower are all marked with large, named painted rocks to alert hikers where to turn, as well as smaller painted rocks left by hikers (look carefully for the ones saying PebbleCreek Hikers). Join the fun by signing up on pchikers.org. Hikes of various levels are available six days a week.

“B” Hikers in Buckeye’s Skyline Park

The club hikes in many different Valley areas but often takes advantage of the variety of trails in nearby Skyline Park. On a breezy Jan. 21, seven “B” hikers completed a 10-mile hike with 1,900 feet of elevation gain. The hike began with a long, steep climb to Javelina Summit, which provided great views of Verrado Golf Course and the surrounding area. Next, the hikers completed a shorter climb on Lost Creek, continued to the Granite Falls Trail, and then finished the loop by crossing the bridge leading back to the parking lot.

Join the hiking club and experience a variety of Arizona desert scenery all around the Valley, with occasional trips outside the Valley. Visit pchikers.org for more information and photos.
