It was an evening of sequins, fringe, and pearls as well as striped vests, fedoras, and cigars as members and guests of the Italian American Club sashayed into the Tuscany Falls Ballroom on April 6 to party the night away at our “Gatsby Gala.” Party revelers really got into the spirit as divas, molls, and flappers could be seen on the arms of politicians, bootleggers, movie moguls, or gangsters. We were whisked back in time to the roaring ’20s and dirty ’30s in style and would have fit right in at any Gatsby extravaganza.
Event Chairperson Shelly Carnevale and her social committee presented an evening of cocktails, dinner, and entertainment as they guided us through the lives and times of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s characters, Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan, from his novel, “The Great Gatsby.”
During the evening, we were entertained by Karen Petersen, on piano, who played and sang popular ’20s tunes. Keith and Sylvia Clinton wowed us with a lively two-step and Charleston dance number. And our very own “Jay and Daisy,” (aka club members Kathy and Gary Luders) performed an elegant and romantic era waltz.
It was all great fun and another successful event with the Italian American Club.
