Kare Bears’ Korner

What’s new at Kare Bears?

Joyce Van Ornam, President

Let’s start with you! If you are new to PebbleCreek, you are new to Kare Bears.

Kare Bears is an organization unique to PebbleCreek. It was founded in 1995 by Rayma Scalzo as a “neighbors helping neighbors” organization. Everyone who lives in PebbleCreek is automatically a member. No one needs to join or pay dues.

Please log on to www.karebears.org, our website that was recently updated by webmaster Mark Pelletier, to see our mission statement, services, pictures and recent news articles.

Kare Bears operates out of a house located at 15383 W. Cheery Lynn Rd. (EN), 623-536-1200. It is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to noon. This organization is staffed by volunteers and funded by donations. Stop by and check us out!

August Health and Wellness events

Co-Directors Donna Blomquist, RN and Dee-Dee Patrick, MS, RN

Kare Bears Health & Wellness has the following events scheduled in August.

Hearing evaluations offered by Ascent Audiology

* Hearing loss is one of the most common conditions affecting older and elderly adults.

* Approximately one in three people in the U.S. between the ages of 65 and 74 has hearing loss.

* Nearly half of those older than 75 have difficulty hearing.

Even if we are prone to “selective deafness” at times, needing to repeat things numerous times can be frustrating and exhausting.

It also can be dangerous. Having trouble hearing can make it hard to understand and follow a doctor’s advice, respond to warnings and hear phones, doorbells and smoke alarms. Hearing loss can also make it hard to enjoy talking with family and friends, leading to feelings of isolation and, potentially, depression.

It might just be wax build up or that your sense of hearing is diminished. Stop guessing and find out what the real cause is!

Schedule a free, 15-minute evaluation on Thursday, Aug. 8 from 8:00 a.m. to noon in the Milan Room of the Tuscany Falls Clubhouse. Sign-up sheet is available at Eagle’s Nest, directly across from the Pro Shop.

Comprehensive Whole-Body Assessments will be held on Aug. 5 and 6, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Tuscany Falls parking lot between the Sales Office and Toscana’s Restaurant.

Blood drive on Tuesday, Aug. 13 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. in the Palm Room at Eagle’s Nest.

If you are taking prescription medications, 95% of them are fine and will not prevent you from donating blood. Some examples of acceptable medications include insulin, blood pressure, cholesterol, anti-depressants, thyroid, allergy and aspirin.

You can get information and register by visiting https://bloodhero.com.

Did you know you can save three lives by donating your blood and it will only take half an hour out of your day? In addition, your body produces healthier red cells after a donation. Red cells carry oxygen to your vital organs. The blood supply at valley hospitals is in need of constant replenishing. Vitalant-AZ is also one of three approved blood banks that can send blood to our military overseas.
