The Desert Carving Show was held in Mesa, Arizona. It is one of the largest carving competitions in the Southwest. Seven members of our own PebbleCreek Woodcarvers Club received awards; Roger Borlaug for an Owl Kachina and an Owl mask; Jim Calder, a stylized feminine figure and runners. Al Collesano received two awards for his Pintail Ducks. Gerald Findley carved a Goshawk. Joel Hawkins captured three awards for his owl, Greenwing Teal and Bluegill. Chuck Lagerstrom won an award with a trout and an American Goldfinch. Jeannette McElroy received an award for her Haida mask.
