Wine-editWine Club May Dinner Features Paul Hobbs Wines

Kathy Foord

Members of the PebbleCreek Wine Club met May 16 for a Paul Hobbs wine dinner in the Chianti Room of the Tuscany Falls clubhouse. We first enjoyed Vina Cobos Felino Chardonnay from Mendoza, Argentina, which was a delightful start to the evening while we mingled and enjoyed visiting with fellow wine club members in the Portofino Room and Library. As always, raffle tickets were sold and several lucky winners went home with wines from Paul Hobbs, with profits being earmarked for Kare Bears.

After we moved to our assigned tables in the Chianti Room, President Jeri Lynne Jones introduced Micah Anders, the portfolio manager for Paul Hobbs Winery from Maverick Beverages. Mr. Anders gave us a brief history of Paul Hobbs, from his beginnings in an apple farming family, to a degree in chemistry, and finally to a master’s degree in viticulture and oenology from UC Davis. During the background presentation while learning about the man, his winery, and his South American endeavors in the wine world, we sipped on a delicious Paul Hobbs (PH) Crossbarn Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast.

We enjoyed our antipasto salad with Italian dressing along with flavorful PH Crossbarn Cabernet from Sonoma. We had preselected our main course of either vegetarian, salmon, or beef sirloin steak, which were served with cream cheese and chive Yukon gold mashed potatoes and garlic parmesan asparagus. All of the entrees were beautifully presented and delicious, especially when paired with Vina Cobos Cocodrilo Corte Cabernet/Malbec blend from Mendoza, Argentina.

The best (and most expensive) wine of the evening, PH Crossbarn Napa Cabernet, was served with a delicious turtle mousse pie parfait garnished with whipped cream and candied pecans. It was hard to tell which was better—the dessert or the wine! Both were fabulous. This was another dinner where the table conversation was so interesting we were in no hurry to depart as we savored the last of our wine and conversation with our new friends.
