Come join us on Wednesday, September 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom to hear Dr. Christopher Salvino, the Trauma Medical Director of West Valley Hospital, share information on the state designated Level I Trauma Center which opened on July 1. The center has a 32 bed inpatient care unit, surgical suites and trauma bays. The Trauma Center expansion has been two years in the making and will give West Valley residents a new option for healthcare closer to home. Dr. Salvino joined West Valley Hospital in 2013 as the Trauma Medical Director. In Arizona he has worked at Banner Good Samaritan as a Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon as well as the Level I Trauma Medical Director at John C. Lincoln Hospital.
With more than 20 years of experience at Level I trauma centers, Dr. Salvino brings a great deal of expertise to the West Valley Trauma Department. Prior to moving to Arizona, Dr. Salvino developed a new ACS Level I trauma center in Illinois and remained at the hospital as medical director of the center for 10 years.
Dr. Salvino has also led research in trauma and aerospace medicine, with published work appearing in various books, trade magazines and journals. He has done pioneering work in the field of trauma laparoscopy, highway trauma safety issues and other related topics. In addition, Dr. Salvino has sat on several editorial advisory boards, including: Air Ambulance, The Journal of Emergency Care, Rescue and Transportation, Rescue Technology, Air Medical Journal and Aviation and Space and Environmental Medicine. He is presently on the State of Arizona Advisory Board, Emergency Medical Services Council as well as the Chair of the Arizona Trauma and Performance Improvement Committee. He previously served as the Chairman to revise the State Trauma Plan. Dr. Salvino also was one of the founders of the Arizona Trauma and Acute Care Consortium, its past President and presently is the Chairman of AZTRACC’s International Symposium with more than 1,000 attendees, pioneering the usage of simulcast to deliver the educational experience worldwide.
Dr. Salvino has also given more than 100 media interviews, run over 23 research projects, given over 178 scientific presentations and taught more than 34 medical courses.
In addition to the work he does in the States, Dr. Salvino has been on four surgical medical missions to Somalia with Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders), Mexico, Bolivia and Kenya.
Dr. Salvino is a board-certified general surgeon. He earned his MD from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. He also holds three Master’s degrees in aerospace medicine, flight test engineering and space studies and two Bachelor’s degrees in mechanical engineering and biology as well as an associate’s degree in health care management. In addition, he is an ACS Fellow.
