Unit 20
Carolyn Rota
November 1 was the first Saturday for our Unit’s lunch at Eagle’s Nest and it was fun. Seven of us enjoyed a tasty meal and great conversation. In attendance were Elaine Yielding, Patty Schoenen, Herb Nelson, Yolanda and Carlos Laborin and Carolyn and Joe Rota. It was nice catching up with neighbors we hadn’t seen in a while. This is an event that we will do every Saturday, and everyone that lives in Unit 20 is invited to attend or even just stop by to say hello. We have so many new neighbors; it would be wonderful to get to know them. If you plan on attending just come at noon to the Eagle’s Nest Restaurant and ask for the Unit 20 party; we’ll be waiting for you. v
This photo is of our Unit 20 November Ladies Luncheon. It was held at The Haymaker Restaurant on November 6. We all had a great time meeting our new neighbors, a great lunch and celebrated the birthdays for our ladies born in November. All the ladies in Unit 20 were born no earlier than 1964. That’s our story and we’re sticking to it.
Happy birthday to Jo Sadler (first on right in green), Pat Rogers (sixth down on left in black) and Lois Hanson and Diane Helmers (not in the photo). Our December Ladies Luncheon will be at the Goodyear Olive Garden on Thursday, December 4 at 11:30 a.m. We will be collecting Christmas gift items for the New Life Center. New Life Center houses families that have experienced abuse and are trying to start life anew. The families consist of women and children, both boys and girls of all ages. This is a Unit 20 project, not just for our Ladies Luncheon, so anyone that would like to give a gift or would prefer to donate money so a gift could be given in their name, please contact either Elaine Yielding at 536-9767 or Carolyn Rota at 374-2059 before December 7. Also remember our annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Sunday, December 7 at 5:00 p.m. in front of Elaine Yielding’s home. More information on this celebration and other upcoming events to take place in Unit 20 will be in your email soon. Thanks again to all those that attended today’s luncheon and we hope to see you and more new faces come December.

Almost half of the Unit 40 residents joined in our annual Welcome Back Celebration on Halloween evening. We were especially pleased to welcome new residents Susan and Joe Lacaeyse who kept with the spirit of the night by wearing New Kids on the Block costumes. It was so nice to see those who were returning from the various states where they have second homes to share in the adventures of those who traveled and from others who caught us up on all that had been happening in PebbleCreek this summer. We need to give a great big thank you to Arlene and Bill Silverman for opening up their lovely home for this event. A great time was had by all. We are looking forward to the events we have planned including the ongoing ladies luncheons, men’s breakfasts and a golf/dinner outing just to name a few.

Turf Paradise: It was off to the horse races for 28 residents of Unit 51 on October 29! A semi-private room, a delicious buffet lunch and one of the races named in honor of PebbleCreek Unit 51 made for a fun day at an out of the ordinary venue. A raffle drawing determined the ten lucky members of our group who were able to watch our race at track side and have their photo taken with the winning horse and jockey. There may not have been a lot of money lost or won, but it was certainly a very enjoyable day at the races and we thank Lynn Lucas for putting it together!
Blue Star Moms Fundraiser: The residents of Unit 51, as well as some outsiders, showed their generosity during our recent fundraiser to support The Blue Star Moms of the Southwest Valley, an organization which prepares care packages for our troops. For a minimum $15 donation (the cost of postage per each box sent), a large blue metallic star—painted, prepared and moved by Lori and Dan Rea—was placed in each donor’s yard for 24 hours. Such a worthy cause brought in over $1,700 within a month of donations! Unit 51 residents were excited to help this special group, as well as be a star in their neighborhood! Many thanks go out to those who participated.

More than 70 partygoers from Unit 52 enjoyed cocktails and supper Tuesday, November 11 at Augie’s Sports Bar. The weather was perfect, the service non pareil and the management even offered discounts on food for veterans, of which there are many in our unit.
This was our fourth party here in the last several years, which is always popular regardless of weather; they stoke up the fire pit if it gets cold. It was organized by Social Chairman Carol Liltz who also took the reservations.
Our last party of the year will be the Holiday Party on December 10 in the Chianti Room.

Thirty ladies from Unit 52 enjoyed a terrific lunch Wednesday, November 12 at P.F. Changs. Arrangements were made by Meg Chrisman and our compliments to her for organizing the lunch and to the chef and staff for delicious food and great service.
Everyone had recovered from the Augie’s party the night before and are looking forward to the Holiday Party December 10 in the Chianti Room at Tuscany Falls Clubhouse; we do have fun! v

Thirteen Unit 53 neighbors took a Desert Belle Cruise on Saguaro Lake 45 minutes east of Sky Harbor Airport October 19 arranged by Rosalie Pyle, our unit representative. The highlight of the cruise was seeing a long horned sheep drinking by the water’s edge and seeing another roaming the steep banks of the lake. Our Coast Guard approved Captain and tour guide gave a 90 minute narration. The cruise was informative, relaxing and picturesque. Along for the day were Doreen Marek and her fiancée Dale, Rosalie Pyle and her friend Jack, Karen Knadler, JoAnne and Jeff Braun, Michael and Sandy Stephens, Gayle Galarneau, Rosemary Holland, Pat Marinelli and Roger Neveraski. Many of us brought home an outstanding DVD representing years of well photographed flora and fauna on Saguaro Lake put to music. It was surprising to learn of all the wildlife that live around the lake.
