Unit Happenings

Unit 4 Valentine’s Day Happy Hour

Nancy Love

To celebrate both our neighborhood and Valentine’s Day, 35 residents of Unit 4 gathered at the home of Kathy Bates. Although the rain was showering down, the wind was enveloping, and the temperature was in the 50s, we stayed dry on the patio or around the kitchen island or fire pit with the food and drinks flowing. As evidence, see the smiles on faces as we posed for an indoor photo. There is no substitute for friends and food.

Unit 8 Ladies’ Lunch

The ladies of Unit 8 gathered at EEST Asian Bistro for lunch in February. The food and service are always marvelous there, and we always have fun catching up! To join us, please contact Jane Holdcroft at [email protected]. (Photo by Alisa Moore)

Unit 18 Celebrates February with a Progressive Cocktail Party

John Fox

Like any great story, it all started over drinks among friends.

Memories of younger days in pub crawls inspired us to organize a progressive cocktail party and a “house crawl in Unit 18.” Our group of three hosts settled on an Italian theme for appetizers. Attendees were responsible for BYOB and sharing a great attitude.

We kicked off by meeting at Bobbi and Brad Young’s home, where the music, laughter, and delicious antipasti skewers and bruschetta set the tone for the remainder of the evening. Forty minutes and two drinks later, the Unit 18 partiers strolled to Bob Bartocci’s home for stuffed mushrooms and handmade pizza rolls and lots of conversations. Another 40 minutes later, we wrapped up the evening by convening at John and Robbie Fox’s home for miniature pizzas, meatballs in a marinara sauce, and a feta watermelon salad.

It was a fantastic time, and another one was scheduled for March!

Our thanks go out to Bobbi and Brad Young, Bob Bartocci, and Robbie Fox for hosting the first Unit 18 Progressive “House Crawl.” We offer special thanks and recognition to Bob Higgins for the amazing photographs. He captured the moment.

Units 22 and 25 Social Event

Maureen Plate

Residents from Units 22 and 25 chose a lovely evening in March to gather at Jude and Dennis Holdorf’s home to socialize. Everyone brought a tasty snack to share and provided their own beverage. We managed to devour the large array of goodies while meeting several new neighbors and greeting those we had not seen in a while. After a long wait for the weather to change, it was a pleasure to enjoy the view of Eagle’s Nest hole number 1 from the Holdorf’s patio.

Unit 27D Social Hour and Luncheon

The ladies of Unit 27D enjoyed a wonderful social hour and luncheon in Toscana’s Board Room. Attending were (left to right): Jerry Nuttall, Suzanne Rambach, Linda Boyd, Erica MacMaster, Rebecca Branson, Pam Morrison, Janice Gerhart, Elizabeth McCarthy, Kena Kramer, Colleen Helker, Susan Sands, Joanne Salzmann, Bebby Nasal, Arden Murphy, Ronda Jones, Linda Shaver, and Nicki Forbes-Robinson.

Unit 36 Meet’n Mingle

Jan Frustaglia

Look at those smiling faces from Unit 36! About 60 residents showed up at 4 p.m. on Feb. 23 on the TF Clubhouse patio for the first Meet’n Mingle of Unit 36 in several years. And that was despite an Arizona blustery-weather day! Bill Frustaglia kindly took the picture. There was lots of chatting on ideas for future connections of Unit 36. A social committee composed of Songcha Bowman, Glenda Pannell, Jennifer Chase, Jan Erker, and the Unit Contact, Jan Frustaglia, planned to work on the details for the next gathering.

During Super Bowl week there was much excitement in the Phoenix area. Another big event taking place was the annual PGA Waste Management Phoenix Open golf tournament. Fans from across the country invaded the TPC Scottsdale golf course, primarily to experience “the greatest party on grass.” The famous 16th hole is the one place on the PGA tour where whispers and polite applause are replaced with loud cheering, heckling, and crazy (but fun) behavior.

A group of Unit 44 residents got together to arrive early on Wednesday, Feb. 8 to secure some good seats at “the loudest hole on Earth.” It was fun watching the world’s best golfers along with some good-playing celebrities (Emmitt Smith, Michael Phelps, Alex Rodriquez, Jerome Bettis, etc.) try for a closest-to-the-pin shot. As is the custom, we would boo every bad shot and loudly cheer the good ones.

Despite false rumors of us throwing beers, streaking across the green, or other acts of craziness, our bleacher creature group from Unit 44 was well-behaved to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the day.

Thanks much to Mark Eichkorn, Frank Gorski, and Don Paxton for organizing this excellent, memorable event.

Bella and Jack Host Fun Unit 48 Party

Rochelle Zuckerbrow

The south side of Unit 48 had a fun party on March 4. The notorious pair of Golden Retrievers (mom Bella and her son Jack) hosted the party along with their parents Paul and Ellen Bussone. Our awesome neighbors have stepped up to kindly support and help our neighbor Mike Smith, who was a victim of the tragic bicycle accident.

In attendance at the party were (bottom row, left to right) Ellen Bussone, Dean and Diane Kuhn, Rochelle Zuckerbrow, Peggy Stoterau, Francey Swim, Joanie O’Neil, Mary Weiss, Pam Aquino, Mark Weiss (back row, left to right) Paul Bussone, Nemo Villarruel, Dawn Rice, Alex and Joanne Cicciarelli, Mark and Lisa Bagshaw, Mary Wittenberg, Greg Miller, Chris and Doug Will, Karen and Jeff Stroup, Jan and Terry Burns, Susan and Raul Rivas, Ron Swim, Jan Hart, Mike O’Neil, Dan and Sally Hale, and Julius Aquino. Not in photo were Jeanine Wilcoxson, Rick and Mollie Lynn, Bernard Ho, and Jean Merkel, our photographer.

Unit 48 Celebrates Valentine’s Day

Shoray Wolfe

Unit 48 neighbors gathered to celebrate Valentine’s Day together while they were treated to a special musical performance by PebbleCreek’s very talented “The Happy Hour Band.”

Unit 51 March Ladies’ Luncheon

Janet Miazga

Our unit’s March Ladies’ Luncheon was hosted by Gloria Fulton and Jackie Vandenberg and well attended by 18 gals. We all enjoyed our lunch at Black Angus and appreciated the lovely green table decor for St. Patrick’s Day, along with shamrock napkins and chocolate mints. Another plus was walking into the restaurant with cloudy skies and walking out into sunshine. The ladies of Unit 51 always enjoy our monthly gatherings, giving us a chance to visit and catch up with each other. Looking forward to next month’s luncheon!

Unit 52 Baseball Outing

Liz Gibson

On Feb. 28, Unit 52 revived a popular outing to Goodyear Ballpark for a Cleveland Guardians vs. Kansas City Royals game. A welcome sign to Unit 52 greeted the party goers, who then went to their reserved seats by right field, where tables of four were set up. The PebbleCreek Unit was also welcomed on the scoreboard, and everyone had a great old-fashioned afternoon.

Unit 53 Ladies’ English Tea

Joan, Melody, and Patsy

The gals gathered for tea time.

Sandy Stephens

Joan Bourassa and Melody Bunkers hosted a Ladies English Tea on Feb. 23 at the home of Joan Bourassa. Crustless finger sandwiches and tea were served at noon. The ladies wore a hat or a fascinator … for those of you that don’t know what that is, a fascinator is a formal headpiece, a style of millinery. The gals not only enjoyed a ‘proper’ English Tea but enjoyed getting together with their neighbor friends.

Unit 62A February Happy Hour

Toni Erickson

On Feb. 6, Paula Hupka and Gerry Hibbard entertained over 40 of our neighbors at the February happy hour. Their home was beautifully decorated for the attending sweethearts who brought appetizers and desserts to share. Paula and Gerry had “heartfully” staged an area for the romantics to be photographed. It was loved by all!

Unit 62A Uptown Alley Bowling Night

Toni Erickson

Unit 62A called all neighbors for an evening of bowling and dining at Uptown Alley this past Feb. 28. Uptown Alley sponsors a special on Tuesdays; bowling and shoes are $9.99. The fun began at 4 p.m. with dinner following right there at the Sports Grill. Those who “struck out” on the fun were, from left to right, Ausy Ausman, Barb Downey, Joan Ausman, Tom Bachmann, Janelle Watts, Kim and Brent Ebert, and Lynn and Bruce Banks. (Photo by Gary Watts)
