Unit 42B Ladies’ Breakfast
Mary Ann Bose
Several women from unit 42B met for breakfast at Eagle’s Nest on Sept. 22. This was the first of hopefully many more chances to meet with some of our neighbors. The food and camaraderie were excellent. We are looking forward to the entire unit breakfast in November.
Unit 44 Cheers to Dan’s 60 Years!
Spike Razem
On Sept. 28, with his neighbors cheering him on, a surprised Dan Harris officially became a sexagenarian!
Dan’s wife, Jean, organized a surprise birthday party at the Oasis Pool which was well-attended by Unit 44 residents. Jean sneakily advised Dan to meet her at the pool after his long bike ride. Little did he know that there would be 35 friends hiding in the ramada ready to shout, then sing “Happy Birthday” upon his arrival. Many brought tasty appetizers, greeting cards, and special gifts, one of which was a candy birthday card featuring a Dan Harris story described with 16 different candy bars.
Jean also arranged a delicious dinner consisting of Rudy’s BBQ. Everyone enjoyed their famous moist brisket, jalapeño sausage, baked beans, potato salad, cole slaw, etc.—yum, yum! And of course, a huge chocolate cake with 60 candles completed the fun meal.
Dan is a popular neighbor, Texas A&M alum, former oil rig engineer, avid jogger, expert billiards player, trivia knowledge guru, and an all-around good guy. He definitely deserved all the accolades and attention as we celebrated his Big Six-Oh birthday.
And, this popular event ultimately was a perfect opportunity for our fellow residents to get together for some great conversation and laughs.
Good times continue in Unit 44!
Unit 55B First Ladies’ Luncheon
Diane Burns
Ann Lehman arranged the first luncheon for the ladies in Unit 55B at Eagle’s Nest on Thursday, Oct. 6. Unit 55B also has an event planned in November at the Oasis pool. Thank you to Ann Lehman for making these arrangements for Unit 55B.
Unit 58 Men’s Breakfast
Ed Raker
The Unit 58 Men’s Breakfast group convened once again at the Eagle’s Nest dining room, on Oct. 6. Our core group was on hand, consisting of Tom Lau, Charlie Hunt, Jim Brown, Tony Gonzales, Rick Island, Bill Mooberry, Jon Jackson, Frank Rodgers, and Ed Raker. And we were happy to be joined once again by Len Maitland and Mike Slaughter. Everyone enjoyed their meal, as usual. And no one spared one another from good-natured barbs, bad jokes, and trickery, also as usual.
This is our routine, which tends to repeat on about a monthly basis, once everyone is good and hungry again.
Unit 62A Fall Service Project
Toni Erickson
The September Unit 62A pizza party held at the Oasis Pool was coupled with our annual fall service project of donating items to Packages from Home. The mission of this 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization is to send care and comfort packages with the intention to boost morale and quality of life to those who serve us. This group includes active duty U.S. military members stationed or deployed overseas, as well as military working dogs, military K9 teams, and homeless, transitioning, and at-risk veterans. Packages from Home provides a list of food, hygiene, and entertainment items for donation, which we followed and filled seven boxes with, in addition to the $125 collected. Cards of appreciation and thanks were written for our service members and sent along with the care packages, and delivered by Gary and Janelle Watts.
