Unit 8 ladies’ luncheon group in February

Unit 8 February Ladies’ Luncheon

Alisa Moore

Sixteen ladies from Unit 8 attended the February luncheon held at Estrella Mountain Community College and hosted by its Culinary Arts program!

Unfortunately, 16 is the maximum per group at the limited-sized location, as more would have loved to join us.

The students are responsible for the preparation and service of the day’s menu, and ours included Southwestern and Native American flavors. Unit 8’s March luncheon will be a potluck held at a neighbor’s home. We welcome anyone from Unit 8! For further information or to RSVP, please contact Jane Holdcroft at [email protected].

Unit 44’s DOTP with Wimpy Hamburgers

Spike Razem

“I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.”

Wimpy’s favorite phrase was the theme for Unit 44’s fun DOTP (Drinks On The Patio) at PebbleCreek’s Oasis Pool. This monthly event was masterfully hosted by Scott and Deb Crabtree on a nice, sunny March 2, which was rescheduled from a cold, rainy Feb. 23. (It’s definitely unusual to have a postponement in Goodyear due to inclement weather.) Residents brought tasty appetizers, delicious side dishes, and exquisite desserts to share. But the highlights, of course, were the grilled-on-site hamburgers, which were good enough to make Wimpy proud.

Good weather, good food, and good conversation resulted in another fun, successful event.

Other excellent Unit 44 activities last month were bocce ball, billiards, Men’s Breakfast, Ladies’ Luncheon, and Men’s Golf—good times continue here in PebbleCreek!

Shoray and Dale Wolfe

Unit 49A Activities

Robin Macik

As Unit 49A grows, so do the activities. On Saturday, Feb. 19, 56 residents met at Park 49A (grass area of unit) for appetizers and socializing. Many of our newest residents joined in the fun and met some of their neighbors for the first time. Everyone sang “Happy Birthday” to Marie Souza, who of course just turned 49 (we think she is younger, but then she wouldn’t be able to live here).

Unit 49A keeps itself busy with a bocce team, three Wii bowling teams, monthly socials, bunco, and game nights. If you are in Unit 49A and have not been receiving emails, please contact Robin Macik at [email protected].

Unit 51 ladies outside Yard House

Unit 51 Ladies’ Luncheon

Janet Miazga

What makes a ladies’ luncheon even more fun? Combining the eating with shopping! The ladies of Unit 51 held their March luncheon at the Yard House restaurant in Westgate, so many of the gals enjoyed the chance to shop at the nearby Tanger Outlets either before or after meeting for lunch. Dee Blount and Dede Harrington planned the March event with this thought in mind—definitely a good idea and a big surprise was how many of us accidentally were in Chico’s at the same time! There were 19 of us attending this month, and we greatly appreciated the St. Paddy’s Day decorations, along with the delicious cupcake and candy-filled “pot of gold” for each of us from the hostesses. Another great event in Unit 51!

Left to right, standing: Chris Schenk, Stan Sharp, Jim Roemer, Dan Strelow, Lou Tronzo, Rick Galloway, David Linth, John Brown, Bernie Bangert, Frank Grady, Ed Glovinsky, Al Williams, Rick Island, Frank Rodgers, and Tom Lau. Seated: George Bohl, Jack Papazian, and Bill Mooberry.

Unit 58 Men’s Breakfast

Ed Raker

The men of Unit 58 Men’s Breakfast group showed up in force on the morning of March 11, setting a new attendance record of 19 participants. On this occasion we welcomed three “first-timers” to our midst, Chris Schenk, Frank Grady, and Dan Strelow.

Our venue was the always-welcoming dining room at Eagle’s Nest, where servers were prompt and accurate in filling our orders, and the food was delicious as usual. Most important, good-natured ribbing and much laughter prevailed.

It’s hoped that by next month the weather will have warmed up enough to have our event in an outdoor setting and perhaps have even more participants.

Elmer and Julie Greenbank were one of the many sweethearts who had their night captured into a memory.

An enjoyable outdoor evening

Unit 62A February Happy Hour

Toni Erickson

Unit 62A celebrated the love of their neighbors at a festive February happy hour on Feb. 9 at the attractive home and backyard of Marilyn and Charlie Newcomer. It was another enjoyable outdoor evening provided to us by the Arizona desert. Following the great food and conversation, the Newcomers had arranged a Valentine photo shoot with all the “get-up” apparel.

Those who rode north to participate in this event included, from left to right, Ernie and Janet Henson, Gerry and Joanne Wrout, Mike Trapp, Tom and Jackie Bachmann, Gary and Janelle Watts, Bruce Banks, Barb Downey, Cathe Pruyn, Lynn Banks, Mike Pruyn, Marilyn Coates, and Renee Fisher.

Unit 62A Los Cedros Excursion

Toni Erickson

Giddy-Up! On March 8, Unit 62A visited Los Cedros in Scottsdale. This extraordinary horse training facility houses performance horses from around the world trained by resident professional trainers. The hour-and-a-half tour was followed by a late lunch at the Horny Toad Restaurant in Cave Creek.
