Unit 8 Ladies Luncheon
Alisa Moore
For the first time in more than a year, the ladies from Unit 8 met for lunch, this time at PF Chang’s. It was so wonderful to see everyone again, to catch up, and to enjoy a wonderful lunch. The 18 who gathered welcomed a new Unit 8 resident, Sharon Connors, and look forward to her attending more of our gatherings. We are back to scheduling our once a month luncheons, and all ladies of Unit 8 are welcome.
Please save the date for our next luncheon on Monday, July 19 at 11:30 a.m. at Dino’s Greek & Italian Grill on McDowell and Dysart. To RSVP, email Jane Holdcroft at [email protected]. Welcome back, everyone!
Unit 20 Ladies’ Lunch Bunch
Rosemary DeAngelo
Unit 20 reinstated their Ladies’ Lunch Bunch on May 12. After over a year of not seeing each other, 14 of us got together at Bella Luna for a meal and three hours of visiting and catching up. A wonderful time was had by all. The food and service were great, and we have vowed to continue getting together each month starting in September. Those attending were Rosemary (the hostess), Maureen, Pat, Lynn, Claudine, Janet, Norma, Georgia, Rosemary, Carol, Anna, Sharon, Jo, Carolyn, and Carol.
Hope the rest of you ladies can join us next time. Continue to stay safe.
Freedom Isn’t Free
Bob Young, Unit 34 Contact
Memorial Day is a day to honor and extend gratitude to the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Across the country, veterans’ groups host services and exhibits to recognize our fallen brothers and sisters. At the Arlington National Cemetery, all available soldiers in the 3rd United States Infantry Regiment take part in a ceremony, placing American flags at more than 228,000 gravesites in the cemetery on Memorial Day.
We displayed an American Flag on all 56 homes in Unit 34, honoring and remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. My thanks to all for participating, and we extend our gratitude to all who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Freedom isn’t free.
Unit 44 Has Some “Famous” Residents!
Michael Razem
On May 20, many of the residents in Unit 44 got together for their monthly Drinks on the Patio (DOTP) at Dawn and Spike Razem’s house.
In addition to enjoying some excellent appetizers, beverages, desserts, and conversation, everyone played the Who’s Who in Unit 44 game. There were 30 questions, including:
– Who broke their nose on Friday the 13th?
– Who played in a state championship football game?
– Who did a Nike commercial with Michael Jordan in 1989?
– Who drove a team of horses when she was six years old?
– Who’s first occupation was a gravedigger?
– Who slept on an active volcano?
It definitely was a fun time getting to better know new neighbors in our new unit.
FYI, the answers are: Mary Lou Stepien, Marc Johnson, Doug Kirkpatrick, Arlys Olson, Curt Hoff, and Barbara Kamm.
Unit 49A
Robin Macik
There is a new unit in town, 49A, which eventually will consist of 68 villas. In less than a year, the unit has reached the halfway mark of 34 villas and 57 residents. The first residents moved into their villas in August 2020. Even though COVID didn’t make it easy, a few residents started meeting monthly outside in January, wearing masks and social distancing. Now with COVID restrictions lifted, the May meet and greet was held at the Oasis Pool ramada, and 25 residents attended, without masks, to have some refreshments and introduce themselves with their smiling faces. Everyone who attended enjoyed themselves, and we even got a picture of everyone who was there. Of course, we missed our snowbird friends and look forward to their return in the fall. The unit is now busy planning smaller group activities, such as a mahjongg group, book club, and card groups. There will also be more monthly gatherings for the future, including block parties, happy hours, breakfasts, luncheons, and whatever else they can come up with. Watch out for this group!
Unit 54 Ladies’ Luncheon
Barb Dunson
There were 22 ladies from Unit 54 who finally got to have a face-to-face get-together on May 19—no more Zoom meetings. It was like “old home week” for many of us who hadn’t seen one another for over a year. COVID-19 interrupted the opportunity to meet and get acquainted with brand new move-ins. The most recent were Helen and Stan Limjoco, who closed on March 29. Helen was able to meet other new homeowners caught in the Covid time warp: Michelle Devine, Deni Bannon, Sherry Trefz, Patty Vitale, Betty Tomtan, and Tammy Chicklero.
The staff at Eagle’s Nest were so accommodating, with excellent service at four outdoor tables. Those also in attendance were Mary O’Neal and her mother Christine O’Neal-Conrad, Joette Lookabaugh, Sandy Schaefer, Pay Gray, Julie Kemper, Kayrene Braden, Patti Klepinger, Cindy Strong, Julie Douglas, Bev Nelson, Linda Sweet, Patty Bryant, Cindy Hurst, and Barb Dunson.
Unit 62A

As we approach the summer months, each one proves to be a little hotter than the previous month, with amusing activities shared in Unit 62A. We tried to show off our bowling skills at Uptown Alley in Surprise. It is a great facility, which accommodated our group, followed by a delicious dinner at Venue Tap, located across the parking lot from the bowling alley. The men dined at the nearby Verrado Grill for breakfast and posed for a picture in the early morning hour, while the girls slept in and gathered for lunch at Thyme Kitchen and Craft Beer located in Peoria. In addition to the normal get-togethers, the ladies started a new twist to the book club called Books and Booze. Each participant brings a beverage of their choice, along with recommendations of book titles or actual books to share. Needless to say, this group will be meeting again!
