Unit 8
Unit 8 ladies met for a Christmas party at Jane Holdcroft’s home. We met for food, fun and fellowship. Unit 8 ladies meet once a month for lunch. We also have a book club and we meet occasionally for game playing. If you would like to join the fun in Unit 8 please contact Jane Holdcroft.

Yesireee! You read it right! Macaroni and cheese “bites”! So on January 5, one brave soul from Unit 20 ordered the newest side dish at Macaroni Grill! Anna said she’d try them out since she loves macaroni and cheese. We all finished ordering and sampled the aromatic Rosemary bread, dipping it in the oil and Balsamic vinegar, as we caught up on everyone’s Christmas holiday tales. We also opened our little gift-o-goodies Anna had prepared for each one of us! Such a nice combination of treats and useful kitchen items!
When our waitress, Marie, brought our meals, we all were surprised at how yummy the bites looked! Anna then let us all know just how great they were! “Next time we’re going to try them,” we said!
Then I asked Marie to capture the moment for us in front of the cozy fireplace.
Unit 20 would like to wish you all a very happy, prosperous, peaceful and fun-filled 2017!

Happy New Year from the Unit 51 Ladies who Lunch! On January 12, nineteen ladies met at Vogue Bistro for their January luncheon. Although the air was a little nippy, sitting in the sun on the patio made for a lovely event. Many thanks to Beverly Graham for hosting! Looking forward to next month’s luncheon on February 9.
Unit 52
Liz Gibson
The Unit 52 Ladies Who Lunch enjoyed the first luncheon of the new year on Wednesday, January 11 at The Olive Garden. Hostess with the mostest Phyllis Kotyluk organized the event and very nicely gifted everyone with a tasty health bar to take home.
The 2017 Social Committee met Tuesday, January 9 to plan the year’s programs, the first one being another popular street party in March with Emily Grotta as hostess. There will be three more unit parties for the fun unit residents to enjoy, ending with a Holiday Party in December. The Chairman for 2017 is Nancy Rosenfeld.
Unit 61
Kathy Gorchesky
In case you missed the extra special glow around Unit 61, the streets were filled with luminaries one night in December. 260 luminaries were created, filled, lit and placed on the streets by over 40 neighbors. Many newly moved in neighbors came out to help with this group project. Once the little bags of light were lit, pizza was enjoyed outside while the candlelight danced in the cool winter air. The Unit also enjoyed a Holiday Party held at the Chianti Room. Over 75 neighbors enjoyed holiday harmony music that was created by Mark Gorchesky on saxophone and percussion and Bill Greenhoot on accordion and percussion. Music, games, laughter and prizes made the night fun!
Unit 53
Sandy Stephens
Sandy Stephens hosted an Open House December 19 for Unit 53 gals. Muriel Long, her piano teacher, played Christmas carols and brought sheet music so everyone who wanted—and can sing—could sing Christmas carols. Some brought cookies and goodies to share and Sandy—for the first time in many years—baked Christmas cookie favorites and pumpkin bread to have along with spiced apple cider and eggnog. Twenty gals got together to enjoy the company of others and celebrate Christmas.
Unit 53

Jon and Susan Jackson from Unit 58 hosted the December Happy Hour for Unit 53 Thursday, December 15, in their lovely home. Susan’s sister Linda lives in Unit 53 and Susan has fortunately adopted our unit. It was a warm evening and the guests were mostly outside enjoying the last of the warm weather nights until spring. Twenty-eight friends got together to enjoy their neighbor friends, celebrate Christmas and munch on all the goodies everyone brought.
Unit 58
Ed Raker
Starting a new tradition in Unit 58, residents are now having monthly no-host cocktail parties in their community. Those who participate each bring an appetizer to share, along with the beverage of their choice, to the home of that month’s resident who offers to open their home for the event. Beginning at 5:00 or 5:30 p.m. on each appointed date, festivities continue as long as the guests care to stay and as long as the food and drink remain.
The January party was held at 16431 W. Berkeley Road, the home of Bob and Patrice Cole. The turnout was great, with an estimated 40 to 50 happy guests in attendance. Food was delicious; a testament to the culinary creativity of our neighbors. And we got to meet more people and make more friends in the process.
The next planned party will be at the home of Neal and Betty Wring, although the date is yet to be determined.
