San Diego—what a place. If you go there this summer, check out Amici Park in Little Italy. They have great movies every Saturday night. Club members and others bused to San Diego last March (2015) and had a fantastic time. Club member and poet, Jim (Deak) Roberts, penned this Remembrance:

San Diego—There We Went

To old San Diego –there we went

On a trip that seemed almost heaven sent

Three nights in a luxury hotel would be more than just swell

And $325 was all we spent

An intrepid group of Creekers

Made the trip with barely open peepers

There were thirty of us on that early morning bus

And some of us went back to being sleepers

Tammy was at the wheel of that big bus

She was more than just fabulous

She became our travel mother and kept us all together

And made sure there was no need to fuss

We stayed three nights at the Casino Viejas

And played the slots until we could play no mas

One called Batman and Robin caused some serious sobbin’

But we loved the bat-sounds and seat vibrating our ass

With a guide we toured most of San Diego

To Torrey Pines and La Jolla we did go

The Mt. Soledad Memorial was very pictorial

With photographs of veterans don’t you know

The homes in La Jolla left most of us ga-ga

They represented some very serious moola

They would give Beverly Hills a run and we had a lot of fun

As we traversed the ritzy neighborhood with a little hoopla

We stopped off in Old Town for shopping and lunch

Enjoyed Mexican cuisine at “The Alamo” a bunch

If you must know we drank some Mexican Pacifico

And on two dollar tacos we did crunch

Back on the bus we continued to roll

Going to the waterfront was our next goal

The Star of India on our right was an ancient sailor’s delight

But seeing the next ship would tug at your soul

It was the USS Midway the aircraft carrier of yore

Alongside the Fishhouse pier as a museum it would moor

There was no time for us to borrow, but some would tour it on the morrow

To ply the decks of the great ship would be a treat for sure

We rolled into the Gaslight District so still and stark

And passed the zoo and rolled on through Balboa Park

Not much time left to be on the go, but we still had to see Coronado

And view the Grand Hotel, the island’s famous landmark

The ride back home was rather neat

We played bingo and stopped at Dateland for a date treat

We got our first date-shake and probably the last for goodness sake

The trip was wonderful but it was good to be back in PebbleCreek
