PC Players Community Theater presents Mama Won’t Fly, by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten. Their southern flavored comedies have become staples of theaters across the country. All three writers also have successful film and television credits. Jones co-wrote the Whoopi Goldberg film Kingdom Come, Hope has written extensively for television and Wooten wrote many episodes of The Golden Girls.
Norleen Sprunt, played by Kathryn Brill, is a spirited, tenacious mama who wants to know everything that is going on in her children’s lives. Savannah Honeycutt is a feisty southern business woman who thinks Mama messes in her life too much and Hayley Quinn is the bride to be; she is accident prone and trying hard to make a good impression on her future in-laws.
It’s road trip time as they travel cross country to the wedding and our ladies get to know each other and begin to bond. Well, maybe.
During the four day trip from Alabama to California, they endure several misadventures and along the way, they encounter a number of interesting characters: a flashy realtor, the church lady and a Vegas bimbo, the Bra Museum curator, Great aunt Pawnee, a lush, a cowboy bartender and a bigamist, not to mention the only ordained minister showgirl in Las Vegas, Savannah’s long lost love and so many more eccentric, outrageous characters.
You’ll recognize many members of Mama’s cast and several new actors too. See if you can pick out who is playing whom in this lively comedy.
Savannah promised her brother that she will successfully bring his bride to California. Will Savannah be successful in fulfilling that promise? Will the beleaguered trio rapidly develop the urge to ditch each other anywhere along the way? What happens to Savannah and Spud Farley, Savannah’s long lost love?
