Several members of T.T.T. Chapter P were welcomed to Michael Anderson Elementary School by 21 talkative and enthusiastic 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th grade girls. They were excited by our visit, but their enthusiasm was bolstered by the pizza we brought for their lunch treat.
Before our arrival, Brittany, the school social worker, had the girls complete “Get to Know You” forms. They told us their favorite color, hobbies, about their family, favorite subjects in school, and favorite books to read. In response, Chapter P members wrote a card to each girl and then met them that day. These activities greatly assisted our members and the girls in building relationships. The members talked and listened to the girls during lunch and heard in detail about their pets, brothers and sisters, and their best liked subjects in school.
Prior to our visit, we had asked the principal to do a needs assessment, and she suggested shoes as this is an item that is at the top of the list. During our visit each girl told us what type of sneaker they would like and the color. We will be purchasing new sneakers for each of the girls.
Following lunch, it was time to say good-bye which was accompanied with many hugs. Our members were thrilled to have this experience and are looking forward to many more fun times in the future with these awesome girls.
