What better place for a July picnic in sunny Arizona then at Golden Corral? The Party Room gave AZ Chapter Q members sufficient space for six of our eight campers plus their families and staff from Heritage Elementary School to sit around the tables and review the excitement of summer camping.
Our eight campers had attended a week of camp focused on archery the second week of June. The Girl Scout’s camp at Willow Springs sets perfectly in the pines of Prescott. The girls got to enjoy a luxury bus ride up with all the other campers and some of the counselors.
Of the six campers at the picnic, each was able to recall at least one highlight of their favorite camp activity followed by a rousing rendition of their favorite camp song. When asked if they’d go camping again, five of them resoundingly answered, “Yes!”
As we closed the get-together, each of the campers received a bag of school supplies to help them with a good start for the new school year. Once we have sent them on their way, our work becomes focused on the next year’s camping program for 2016. The teachers promised to begin their search for the students who would best benefit from this camping experience. We look forward to another positive and exciting experience with fourth graders.
The funding for this camping experience for fourth grade students has been gathered through our annual Spring Fashion Show held within the PebbleCreek Community. It has been most successful for our chapter and we are pleased to announce the date for 2016: March 12, 2016. Be looking for further details in the coming months as our members resume the meetings which get the ball rolling.
