Save the date: “Hit by a Ton of Bricks” grandparents to the rescue conference

Steve Kirk

It is hard to go anywhere without hearing about drug and alcohol abuse and addiction. The Surgeon General recently said that one in seven people will suffer from addiction. In many communities, typically 50 percent of the people say their families have personal experience with drug or alcohol addiction or they are aware of a family that has had the experience.

Hold the date the morning of Thursday, March 23. Details are still being worked out, but Dr. John Vawter, who experienced this firsthand when his own family was invaded by drugs, will be our guest speaker. Out of their pain, Dr. Vawter and his wife formed a non-profit aimed at helping parents and grandparents whose children or grandchildren are using and abusing drugs and/or alcohol and have become addicted. Dr. Vawter is the author of two books on this subject and hosts a daily radio program heard on some 418 stations in the U.S. And he will be with us on March 23. Yes, hold the date; details to follow!
