Mailbox holiday decorations

Cher Zeman

Now open to all PebbleCreekers to decorate their mailboxes or Secure Locking Dropboxes for the holidays, Unit 64 still sets the bar. This year instead of first, second and third place prizes, the judges for Unit 64 felt there were too many great mailboxes to be so limiting; hence the decision to give 10 awards. The grand prize winners with their camping decor theme and the wonderful message, “No matter the weather when the family’s together” were Gene and JoAnn Firoetti. This is the second year in a row for them. There was a tie between Mike and Cher Zeman’s animated choir and Scott and Karen Giles’s gingerbread house in the most creative/craftsmanship category. Gary and Barb Mackman’s nod to Edgar Allan Poe’s The Raven/crows/blackbirds (unit joke) won most humorous. Ann and Dave Silverstein won most religious for their Jewish decor. Bob and Connie Armstrong won most elegant while Tom and Sharon Klein won best unlit mailbox decor for their wooden cutout of a snowman mailbox sitter. Ted and Cheryl McGovern won the global warming award for their North Pole mailbox while Tom and Pam Frye got the bribery prize for having candy for passer-byers. And last, but not least, is actually first but not least. First to get the ball rolling was the prize for getting their mailbox decorated first. So thanks for the spirit, Dean and Bev Bass.

Hopefully next year more of PebbleCreek will decorate their mailboxes in lights, ribbons and bows or something more.
