Rules Compliance Committee seeks new members

The Rules Compliance Committee (RCC) of the PebbleCreek Homeowners Association (HOA) is seeking candidates interested in becoming a volunteer member. Newly selected volunteers will serve a one-year term beginning January 1, 2020. To qualify, candidates must be homeowners in good standing and available to attend monthly committee meetings from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on the third Thursday of each month.

The RCC recommends changes or additions to PebbleCreek’s rules and regulations for approval by the HOA board. The RCC also works with and supports the PebbleCreek Patrol in investigations and enforcement of association rules and regulations, and it provides a system of fines and penalties.

“Being on the RCC has been a lot of fun for me,” shared member Mike Ramsey. “I’m sort of a nosy person and always want to know what’s going on in the community,” he laughed. “Being on the RCC is certainly a great way to be in-the-know because we work with every part of the community—the HOA board, the other committees, the residents, and staff.” Mike, who has been on the committee six years, says he spends an average of ten hours a month as an RCC volunteer. “It really depends on how busy we are, of course, but it’s not what I’d call a lot of time—and the work is always very, very interesting.”

Beverly Bonich, who has a long history with the committee (she actually started it back in 1995), says it’s important for the committee to have members “who have an open mind, do not have an agenda, are willing to view situations objectively, and are able to compromise if not everyone is in agreement. We’ve rewritten the rules twice in the last few years,” she continued, “but as we grow and develop as a community, there’s always something popping up. Right now, for example, we’re looking at the issue of drones and assistance dogs (as opposed to service dogs). I like feeling that I am a part of the solution to the issues and problems facing our community.”

“I believe you need to be active in the community in which you live,” opined RCC member Sandra Merriweather. “Being on a committee, like the RCC, gives you an opportunity to have a positive impact as well as a chance to get to meet and know some fascinating neighbors you would not otherwise.” Sandra thinks that it’s important for committee volunteers to have an understanding of PebbleCreek’s governing documents and where to find the documents online. “I read the Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions (CC&Rs) and rules when I first moved in,” she commented, “but I certainly didn’t memorize them. Now that I’m on the RCC and have had to frequently refer to our various legal documents in our deliberations, I have come to appreciate how valuable these instruments are in helping maintain the beauty and serenity of our community. What happens here in PebbleCreek reflects on each of us. If I am able to leave my neighborhood as beautiful as I found it when I moved in, I will have done my job!”

Candidates interested in volunteering for the RCC must begin the process by submitting the following information to the Eagle’s Nest resident and guest services desk no later than 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31: homeowner candidate’s name, address, phone, email address, unit and lot numbers. Candidates may also apply online (look for the 2020 committee sign-up form under “Quick Links” on the Home page of the HOA website).

After proper vetting, each approved candidate will receive more details about the interview and selection process.
