Miniature hand crafted Christmas trees are for sale at the holiday shop in the Creative Arts Center this year. Each tree is made of hand hooked wool and decorated in a variety of colors and with different ornamentation. The basic design was the idea of Karen Lubahn and allowed for the individual creativity of each hooker to complete a tree in her own unique way. Sally Holmboe suggested each tree be placed in a gold pot which provides a base for the trees to be free standing decorations. Each tree is original because the crafter worked it with left over wool strips or worms as they are called in rug hookers jargon. Working on various rugs over the years tends to result in various odd pieces of wool being left over from each project.
A group of hookers from the Rug Hookers of PebbleCreek participated in a collaborative workshop day that resembled a spin on Santa’s workshop with cutting, stuffing, sewing, gluing and, of course, hooking. The Christmas tree, often seen as the traditional symbol of the holiday season, reflects the influence and personal touch of each hooker. Accents on the trees vary in number, size and type of ornament based on the choice of the artist.
These holiday accents would look good on a mantle, table or countertop. Sizes vary from eight to 15 inches in height and would be especially appreciated by someone who wants or needs a little yuletide sparkle. Bring a little Christmas to your home or someone else’s with one of these delightful trees.
Stop in and see the hookers participating in one of their favorite pastimes – hooking rugs. The Rug Hookers meet every Monday afternoon from noon to 4:00 p.m. in the Fiber Arts Room in the Creative Arts Center.
