Resident Becomes a White House Christmas Decorator

PebbleCreek resident Della Domingo said she had the honor of a lifetime when selected to be a volunteer White House Christmas Decorator. Volunteers came from all around the country. There were 75 decorators for the first three days and about 150 for the final three days.

She was part of the team responsible for the State Dining Room and Red Room. The trees in the dining room were dedicated to students and the teachers of the year from around the country. As a retired 5th grade social studies teacher, this was a dream assignment for her. She helped make hundreds of self-portrait ornaments complete with orbs, confetti, and ribbons.

Working inside the White House was a surreal experience. She had to pinch herself daily as she looked around at the art and thought about the history surrounding her. The volunteers had breakfast and lunch in the State Dining Room.

On the last day, the volunteers were finally able to walk around and see the finished decorations throughout the White House and take pictures. The First Lady held a reception for all the volunteers and thanked them and took a picture with them.

Della said, “I’m so grateful I had the opportunity to be a part of this experience.”

This wasn’t the first time Della has volunteered to decorate, last year she was selected to assist with decorating the floats for the Rose Bowl parade.

Della Domingo resides in Unit 49A, and we are proud of our new celebrity and neighbor.
