Students try to solve Duncan’s dilemma in The Day the Crayons Came Home by Drew Daywalt. Readers traveled to the Dysart School District to perform this delightful sequel to The Day the Crayons Quit also by Daywalt. A young boy named Duncan had several angry crayons that had decided to quit in the fall since they had been “lost, forgotten, broken or neglected.” In the spring Duncan received postcards from these crayons that were unhappy but wanted to come home. Narrator, Julie Leyda, skillfully led the students in conversation to understand why each of the eleven crayons were angry and how Duncan could solve his dilemma, making each of those crayons feel right at home.

Participating are Julie Leyda, Marcia Alderink—Brown, Sue Burwood—Maroon, Sandy Mednick—Turquoise, Bev Buck—Neon Red, Di Week—Glo in the Dark, John Gimon—Tan, Dorothy Danner—Orange, Marianne Johnson—Yellow, Lila Garner—Gold, KT Tanner—Chunky Toddler and Neal Weckworth—Pea Green. Our next school performance will be during the week of October 23 and the students are already anticipating our next visit.
