The PebbleCreek Wine Club held its four-course Charles Krug Winery dinner on Sept. 20 in the beautifully renovated Tuscany Clubhouse. The Charles Krug vineyard was planted in 1861 and was the first winery in Napa Valley. The winery, now part of the Mondavi family, lives by the motto “wine is life.” The fabulous dinner was attended by 105 lucky members who enjoyed a reception featuring Charles Krug Sauvignon Blanc. As we moved into the ballroom for dinner we saw a short video highlighting the winery’s progress through 150 years, presented by Kevin Scheerle, the winery rep for our area.
Our first course was an amazing bourbon baked pear crostini with toasted marshmallow whip and accompanied by smoked pepita crusted scallop with herb oil. This course was paired with Charles Krug Carneros Chardonnay. The second course, accompanied by Charles Krug Carneros Pinot Noir was a spring mix salad with basil, salami ribbons, strawberries with balsamic glaze, pomegranate seeds, and herb oil. Our main course was a choice of Jamaican jerk prime rib, buttery ginger mashed potatoes, mixed beans and au jus or swordfish with blood orange sauce, spiced mixed berries, and roasted butternut squash. A vegetarian option was also offered. This delicious course was paired with French Blue Bordeaux Rouge. As full as our tummies were, we thoroughly enjoyed the berry caramel tart with currant whip and dusted with pistachios and the delicious Charles Krug Cabernet Sauvignon. Kudos to the chef for another wonderful meal!
As always, between courses, several bottles of wine were raffled off with all proceeds being donated to Kare Bears. For information on the PebbleCreek Wine Club, please visit our website at pcwineclub.com.
