PebbleCreek Community Players presents Mama Won’t Fly, written by those popular southern playwrights Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and James Wooten. The 15 members of the cast (Kathryn Brill, Barbara Faler, Patrice Cole, Ann Silverstein, Rita Longley, KT Tanner, Sheila Jacobson, Marielle Ramsey, Bob Lang, Karl Schmidt, Jim Greer, Michael Scherer, Steffen Jacobson, Arnold Reed and Jon LIndstrom) will play 24 different characters with several actors playing multiple roles. This cast size is a new record for a Players’ production; coordinating their entrances and exits along with rapid scene changes will be a challenge for everyone. Mama is written in two acts, each having seven or eight scenes with a no frills set design. All scenes are akin to blackout skits (think TV series Laugh-In).

The story? It begins with Mama, Norleen Sprunt, a spirited, tenacious meddler who needs to go to her son’s wedding across country, but she won’t fly. So she and daughter Savannah, a feisty Southern businesswoman, are forced to drive accompanied by a surprise guest, the bride-to-be Haley, a lovable, high-energy, nervous wreck with a history of having the worst luck in the world. As soon as the road trip starts, comedic chaos ensues! Every conceivable—and inconceivable—mishap that can occur does, including the theft of their car and all their clothes, a near fatal encounter at an underwear museum, the accidental homicide of an ancient Texas relative, a mad dash across the desert in a hijacked eighteen wheeler and a riotous detour to Vegas that ends in a brawl with an ordained showgirl/minister. Rising above their mother-daughter issues, Norleen and Savannah work together to get the nuptials back on track. In a surprising and heartwarming resolution, they forge an exciting new path for their own relationship and welcome Haley into their delightfully wacky family. This funny, family-friendly comedy will have you laughing your way across the country!

Opening day for ticket sales will be September 20, 2014, at 8:00 a.m., in the Renaissance Theatre. Performances will be Wednesday, October 22 through Saturday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m.

To improve the listening experience of hearing aid users and others who have limited loss of hearing, PebbleCreek has a hearing-assist program. The Renaissance Theatre is installed with wireless, FM, sound-signal transmitters. Users of appropriate hearing-assist receivers and headphones are able to receive a sound signal wirelessly and control their own volume to enhance sound clarity. Currently, there are two hearing-assist receivers available for use. Individuals will need to reserve the receivers in advance of attending a performance by contacting John Gimon, Ticket Sales representative for this production or they can purchase their own hearing-assist receiver/headphones from ABBN in Scottsdale, Arizona; phone 888-556-3887 or at website www.abb.com.
