The Arizona Trio entertains at Build the Backstage Benefit

Save the date and plan to attend the Build the Backstage Benefit on Friday evening, May 8 in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom. A no host bar opens at 5:30 p.m. with a plated dinner at 6:30 p.m. Come and enjoy a wonderful evening of excellent food and great entertainment. This event marks the beginning of raising funds to build a backstage for the Renaissance Theatre. Along with great entertainment from The Arizona Trio, a drawing for two season tickets to the Guest Artist series will be held as well as a 50/50 raffle. A presentation of the project and an opportunity to become a Build the Backstage Patron will be presented.

For those who have never been on the theater stage, this is your chance to step on stage and see behind the curtain and the reason a backstage is being built. Your opportunity will occur between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. Dinner and show tickets are $65 and you will receive a tax deductible receipt for a portion of the ticket. Tables of 10 may be reserved. Ticket sales begin in the Eagle’s Nest Kiosk on Monday, April 13 from 10:00 a.m. to noon and every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in April.

Folk music lives on with The Arizona Trio! Jeff Harrison, Gary Kotula and Dave Woodruff create a crowd pleasing blend of melody, harmony, rhythm and boundless enthusiasm. Their clear, reminiscent sound is perfectly showcased in a repertoire that ranges from rousing songs of humor and adventure to tender ballads. Whether singing a song of mood and romance or banging out an energetic toe tapper with guitars and banjos flying, The Arizona Trio produces quality entertainment.

This event is brought to you by the PAC (Performing Arts Council) that comprises the four performing clubs – Showtime, PC Players, PC Singers and PC Musicians.

Renaissance Theater to get backstage expansion

How do you stuff about 40 ladies into a 10 x 15 foot space and change clothes in less than two minutes while a dozen men are doing the same thing in a storage closet? If that isn’t challenging enough, think about sharing one very small restroom with all of those people. Accidents are waiting to happen! Where does a couch, bar and piano go when it is moved off stage in the Renaissance Theatre? Chances are it is shoved outside in the stairwells. This is what our performing arts clubs have been dealing with in order to present the full production shows PebbleCreek audiences have come to expect.

Now we know; relief is on the way! A theater expansion team, headed up by Carolyn Weese, Jeff Buda and Ray Hadden of our Performing Arts Council, have been working diligently for a year to find a way to relieve the stress of the backstage and provide a safer environment for the performers and stage crews. Here comes the exciting solution: a large multi-purpose room is to be built on the back side of the theater that will provide space for staging shows, dressing areas, rehearsal space, club board meetings and other needs essential to putting on a show. The new addition will not be a storage area but an active working space that serves multi-purposes.

Mr. Ed Robson recognized the tremendous need for the additional area and is contributing a major portion of the funding for this project. The PAC clubs have agreed to raise an amount of money for the project and the HOA will complete the funding. So far an architect has been retained and plans are being drawn. It is anticipated that construction may begin by early June with completion of the building in time for the fall performances.

This is an exciting time for the performing arts community in PebbleCreek. Look for special events and opportunities to support this project in the coming months. Excuse our dust, but the best is yet to be.

Saturday, April 4 is the opening day of ticket sales for the concert. Sales are from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. in the Renaissance Theatre. Tickets are $15 each and, for this concert only, individuals may purchase up to ten tickets per person. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the kiosk in Eagle’s Nest Clubhouse. Somewhere someone knows the words to the songs you sing. Director Gail Kennedy and the chorus are certain that concert goers will know the words to most of the sixteen songs they will be singing in this nostalgic program! The opening number, Sing a Song, is a flashback to the 70s and sets the tone for an evening bursting with musical memories. The Sopranos and Altos are transformed into the 60s Chicks performing a fun medley of three great 1960s girl singers’ hits about guys and love! Included in the medley are Shelley Fabares’ Johnny Angel, Leslie Gore’s It’s My Party and Dusty Springfield’s I Only Want to Be with You. Not to be outdone by the ladies, the Tenors, Baritones and Basses sing a lighthearted number about a very remarkable lady! She is so unique, so incomparable and so extraordinary that we are keeping her name a secret until the performance! The number is certain to bring down the house when this one of a kind gal is revealed! This concert also features two a cappella numbers – one a beautiful 50s ballad and the other a 60s doo-wop piece. Eight Is Enough, a mixed ensemble, will perform a 50s rock n’ roll number and a ladies trio will do a 60s Dionne Warwick hit. The concert closes with a beautiful, stirring Mark Hayes arrangement of You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Mark the performance dates on your calendar now. This is a must hear, must see concert! Director Kennedy and the chorus promise audiences a night of fabulous music and warm memories!

Opportunity Knocks

ShowTime would like you to consider being a part of the performing arts in PebbleCreek. ShowTime’s annual membership meeting is Wednesday, April 22. There will be signup sheets for volunteers for a variety of committees. If you have any technical skills in sound, lighting or set building, we are eager to meet you. Keep coming to the shows and supporting ShowTime and maybe you’ll have the urge to become a part of PebbleCreek Performing Arts.

Do you now, or did you ever, play a musical instrument? If so, the PebbleCreek Musicians would like to talk with you. For more information contact Bruce Birnel at [email protected]. Indicate what instrument you play, for how long you played, playing experience (bands, solos, etc.) and if you can read music.

After months of rehearsal, opening night for ShowTime’s The Drowsy Chaperone is just around the corner. On Monday, April 13 more than 40 actors, singers and dancers will light up the Renaissance Theatre with crazy songs, colorful costumes and off the wall characters.

The play is a musical within a comedy that tells the story of an eccentric man and his love for an old show from the 1920s. As he recounts the plot of the vintage musical, the characters come to life and his dreary living room is transformed into a Broadway style stage.

The Drowsy Chaperone will run six nights from Monday, April 13 to Saturday, April 18. Tickets are available at the Eagle’s Nest kiosk on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:00 a.m.to noon. So put on your fancy dress because it is time to show off an incredible evening of music and comedy performed by some of PebbleCreek’s most talented singers and actors plus dancing by Dance Fusion.

Wisconsin 2015 Tailgate Party

Sue White

On Sunday, March 8, 2015, 214 Wisconsinites and their friends gathered outside and inside the Tuscany Falls Ballroom for the nineteenth annual Wisconsin Party. This year’s theme was a tailgate party. Folks were greeted by Pat Jensen and her team of volunteers outside with Wisconsin Badger and Packer signs and chairs and even a grill. Folks also had fun with the Badger and Packer Corn Hole bean bag toss and Ladder Golf.

All the tables were decorated with a checkerboard cloth, tailgate mustard and ketchup bottles, a jar of Silver Spring Mustard and Famous Dave’s barbeque sauce. One lucky person took home all the centerpiece items. Before dinner was served, everyone was treated to deviled eggs made with the Silver Spring Mustard.

Steven Jensen was the emcee and shared many Lena and Ole jokes along with trivia about Wisconsin. He also called the winners for the card game, the 50/50 raffle and the raffle baskets and chairs. The trivia game was a team effort at each table—the lucky table split $50 among all the folks at that table.

The entertainment was provided by Praise Fourmation, a gospel singing group with two PebbleCreek residents and some former Wisconsinites. Everyone was clapping to the music and also enjoyed the jokes and background on the group members’ experience.

Culver’s Custard of Avondale once again provided cheese curds for another appetizer and treated everyone to ice cream sundaes for dessert. Some folks were lucky enough to go home with an extra pint of custard. They also were generous in providing everyone with coupons to use at their restaurant.

Once again, Wisconsinites were generous in donating $912 to the Agua Fria Food Bank.

Pat Jensen’s committee members included Dan and Shelley Borreson, Jackie Horton, Pat and Trish Watkins, Tom and Mary Ann Bose, Jim and Ann Sulzer, Ruth Price and Sue White. Special thanks to Frank and Gloria Glowinski, Sue Chute, Jeff Horan and Lynn Seidel for helping out on the day of the party!

Mark your calendars for next year’s Wisconsin party which will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2016!

Colorado State Party

We’ve begun the final roundup, gathering all the fine and feisty Coloradans and friends for the Colorado State Party. Festivities will be held at Sunset Park (Eagle’s Nest side) beginning with refreshments at noon and grub at 12:30 p.m. Make sure you’re on the lookout for the best dressed cowboy and cowgirl; great prizes to be given away.

Besides bringing chairs, blankets and tables for sitting around, don’t forget your winning smile and an empty stomach. We’re serving three types of meat, three vegetables, three desserts and lots of Coors as well as lemonade, water and iced tea.

You can enjoy a great meal, great music and great Colorado friends for only $17 (kids get in for $10). Plus there’s bocce ball and horseshoes.

Get on down to your local pony express and mail in your check, pronto! You don’t want to miss out.
