PebbleCreek Singers Welcomes New Officers

Diane Piehl

At the postponed annual meeting of the PebbleCreek Singers, held via Zoom, we welcomed new officers to the organization: President Marlys Ross, Vice President Alice Haywood, Treasurer Patrice Chatterton, Secretary Joan Ausman, Past President Donna Swagger, Musical Director Jerry Drake. The year 2020 was most challenging, and we welcome the possibility of performing in the fall.

Our goal is to perform a Christmas concert for the community in December. Mark your calendars for Thursday, Dec. 1 through Sunday, Dec. 4. We’ll remain hopeful, but of course, unknowns prevail.

We continue to keep connected to one another through quizzes, cards, notes, or emails checking on everyone’s wellbeing.

We’re always ready to welcome additional voices to the chorus, so whether you sing high notes, low notes, or in-between notes, PebbleCreek Singers is looking for you. Be a part of our musical family as we gear up for the 2021 season. Contact Nancy Gustafson at 623-215-3292 for more information about your place in the chorus.

PebbleCreek Singers Brings More Happenings

Diane Piehl

In our ongoing attempt to stay connected to our chorus members while being disconnected, the PebbleCreek (PC) Singers board challenged them to another quiz. It was a fun crossword puzzle, a la Director Jerry Drake, relative to the music for what would have been a spring concert. The first person submitting all the correct answers was the winner; and that was Nancy Gustafson, second soprano section leader.

Our Singers’ board of directors honored two board members for their tireless and above and beyond efforts leading the organization in the past year plus. With many challenges for both President Donna Swagger and Treasurer Doug Will, they both are deserving of recognition. Presentations were made to Donna and Doug at the January board meeting.

We’ll look forward to Zooming and trying new ideas to keep us in touch until we can again sing as a group for our community. This year is promising and keep those vaccines coming!

Live Music in the Park

Karen Peterson

PebbleCreek musicians, Karen Peterson and Howard Brodbeck, entertained approximately 80 friends and neighbors on a beautiful Thursday evening in April at Sunrise Park.

Howard, who plays the guitar and harmonica, covered James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, and Bob Dylan. Karen, a pianist and vocalist, performed Carly Simon, Billy Joel, and Janis Joplin, just to name a few.

The two are both professional musicians who perform solo, duo, trio, or with the PebbleRock Band. Be sure to watch for all our PebbleCreek musicians as live music comes back in full swing this fall!

For more information about Howard and Karen’s music and performances, you can email [email protected] or [email protected].

Wanted: Techies!

Melissa Kallett

(This is the first in a summer series of articles about your resident theater groups.)

Everything about a Showtime or PC Players production is courtesy of resident volunteers—the actors, vocalists, musical directors, vocal directors, set designers, construction crews, costume designers, backstage crew, and lighting and sound technicians. With the theater reopening after a 13-month hiatus due to COVID precautions, both theater groups are back in rehearsal for their fall productions. Over the next several months, through these articles, we’ll introduce you to your theater groups and invite you to get involved. Whether your interests lie on the stage or behind the scenes, you’ll discover there is a place for you in your resident theater clubs!

This month, let’s talk tech! If you’re a techie, we need you! If you’re comfortable sitting behind a console with all sorts of knobs and dials, we need you. If you like toying with audio tapes, subwoofers, and intelligent lights, we need you. If you go to the theater and pay closer attention to the lighting and sound effects than you do to the acting, we need you. I could go on and on, but if you’re a techie, your local resident performing arts groups of Showtime and PC Players need your involvement!

Our Renaissance Theater is equipped with some of the finest lighting and sound technology found in community theaters. For sound and video, this includes a Yamaha TF-5 console, Panasonic laser projectors, wireless body packs and microphones, and a Mac Mini with QLAB to run all the SFX and video. For lights, we have an ETC ION console, Leko, LED, moving head intelligent light fixtures, and manual follow spotlights.

We need folks to operate this equipment. If you have theater or production experience, that would be ideal. If you’ve never heard of the equipment mentioned above, but have a technical aptitude and commitment to learning, that is equally welcome. We’ll train you on how to program and operate it all! Don’t feel intimidated. Most of the members of our technical teams had no prior experience before joining our clubs. Now they are amazing, and you will be too! The summer is a great time to step forward, as we have sufficient time and access to the theater to train you. Interested? Contact Patti Wegehaupt to learn more and to arrange a visit to the Renaissance Theater control room.

To learn more about technical opportunities in your theater groups, or any of the many other ways to get involved, please visit our newly revised Showtime page on the HOA website. It’s simple to find us:

– Login at www.pebblecreekhoa.org (you need your HOA membership number)

Showtime and PC Players are two of the four resident performing arts groups in the community. The others are PC Musicians (Big Band) and PC Singers (choral).
