It was rough going the week before Thanksgiving with very little food on the shelves for Thanksgiving Dinner Bags, but our wonderful community came through and donated food and checks to ensure we were able to give out 500 Thanksgiving Dinner Bags and turkeys this year. For Christmas we gave out an additional 450 Dinner Bags and turkeys to families in need. Additionally, parents were able to select one gift for each child under 18 on the clothing side of the facility.

All of this is made possible by donations from friends and neighbors in our communities of Goodyear and Avondale, including PebbleCreek. We were especially thrilled to have canvass backpacks to fill this year which had been donated. This made it much easier for those walking home to place the food bags on their backs and carry their turkey. Those on bicycles particularly managed much better than with the paper bags we used in the past.

Our PebbleCreek Community is especially good about helping support this project. A big thank you to the many clubs and parties that collected donations of food, money and toys. To pull off these wonderful events took a total of 101 volunteers and over 550 person hours for both events. Our PebbleCreek Community Church (PCCC) Mission Committee organizes the events and seeks help from other churches and groups. It is a pleasure to work with all those who helped to ensure holiday dinners for so many families. PebbleCreek Community church meets each Sunday at 9:00 a.m. in the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom and all faiths are welcome to join in our interdenominational service.
