The members of PebbleCreek (PC) Democratic Club continue to support the community in several ways. The Outreach Committee collects items for various charities around the Valley from club members and others in PC.

In February and March every year, club members bring dog and cat items to the monthly meetings. These items are welcomed by the Maricopa Humane Society. Towels and blankets are needed for the shelter, and new leashes, water bowls, and toys can go with adoptees to their new homes. This year we even received some cute handmade doggie shades and bandanas. In addition to these items, club members donated $445. The items donated weighed in at 425 pounds.

Baby and children’s clothing were also collected and donated to the Baby Gift Ministry of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Litchfield. These donations totaled 475 pounds. The Baby Gift Ministry provides much-needed baby items to women in crisis. Monthly donations are delivered to the Crisis Center in Peoria. These provide relief for moms and necessities for babies.

The homeless and others in need benefit from clothing and shoes collected and dropped off at the Phoenix Rescue Mission. The last donation from the Democratic Club weighed 62 pounds. In past months, we have donated amounts up to 300 pounds. The Mission provides life-transforming solutions to persons facing hunger, homelessness, addiction, and trauma.

Another charity supported by the club is Dress for Success. This worthy cause seeks to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Clothes suitable for the workplace and interviews are especially welcome. Seeing as many of us have had corporate past lives and now wear more casual attire on a daily basis, Dress for Success clients benefit greatly from our donations. The March delivery totaled 285 pounds and was most welcome.

Members Judy and Ross Hart are the hard-working pair who sort and deliver the generous donations to the various locations, and we are grateful for their service to both the club and the charities.

The Pebblecreek Democratic Club meets on the first Wednesday of every month, except June, July, and August, in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom. Social hour is 6 to 7 p.m. and the meeting begins at 7 p.m. Meetings feature speakers on topics that range from politics to social issues to local concerns. The meetings are open to all.
