PebbleCreek Art Club Monthly News

The monthly meeting took place on March 31 in the Coyote Room and members generously began filling boxes with donations of art supplies for the annual Gifts from the HeART drive. This year’s recipient was the Boys and Girls Club of Avondale. The drive was organized by Karen Ludwig and Diana Ho, and their efforts were greatly appreciated by the Art Club and the Boys and Girls Club.

Eight new members were welcomed this month. Our membership now stands at 192 talented artists.

Shoray Wolfe announced new classes that will be available in June, including Monoprint on Gel Plates, Pencil Drawing Techniques, and Collage Books. Registration for both members and non-members can be found on our club website at pcartclub.org. What a great way to spend time learning something new in the cool comfort of the Coyote Room at the Creative Arts Center. A full slate of fall classes will begin in September.

Betty Jean Kennedy will be organizing and overseeing the 30/30 Sketching Challenge again this summer. Requirements are a sketchbook, a pencil, and 30 minutes a day for 30 days in which to sketch something. It will all be done via the internet so you can sketch anywhere, submit your drawings online, and see what other members have contributed each day. This challenge was a big hit last summer. Members expressed that their sketching abilities improved over the 30 days and all enjoyed seeing the work of other members on a daily basis. Betty Jean organized a lunch at the end of the 30-day period, so all the sketchers were able to meet in person and discuss their successes and learning.

Several members traveled to Wickenburg on April 1 for the annual Cowgirl Up exhibit. This event has been ongoing since 2006 at Desert Caballeros Gallery and features some of the brightest contemporary female artists working in the Western genre. It is one of the major national events for Western women artists.

The Oasis Pool Annual Picnic will be held on May 12. Please register online. Freshly cooked hamburgers, sides, and desserts will be served. BYO beverage.

Registration for artists for this year’s Annual Art Show and Sale begins after April 30. See the website for specific details about rules and entry forms. This year’s Special Challenge is “Back to the Basics.” From literature to movies, from fashion to automobiles, the possibilities are limitless.
