The 14 teams that make up the PebbleCreek Senior Softball Association (PCSSA) opened their 23rd season on Saturday, October 28, at Robson’s Field of Dreams. The day was perfect with a clear blue sky and a light breeze.

Opening day is a special day for PCSSA players. The opening ceremonies start with an introduction of the individuals that took up the challenge of managing one of the 14 teams that make up this great league. Following the manager introductions, the PCSSA Board was introduced followed by the singing of our National Anthem by PebbleCreek’s own Pat Ingalls. One-hundred-sixty plus players, as well as those in attendance, turned and faced the American Flag.

A moment of silence was observed for one of the PCSSA most-liked players (Jack Hogan) who passed away in September. Following the moment of silence, a plaque containing Jack’s number (4) was unveiled and will be placed on the scorekeeper’s tower for every player to see. Jack played and managed the Augie’s team for several years and the sponsor (Augie’s) requested that Jack’s number be retired.

Then the following words that every ball player yearns to hear were spoken by the umpires, “Play ball.”

If you’ve never attended a game at the ball field, come on down and enjoy a competitive game as well as seeing the camaraderie and respect the players have for each other. Games are played on Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday starting at 9:00 a.m.
