The PebbleCreek Senior Softball Association (PCSSA) conducted their player draft in September and started making plans for opening their 26th season of play. In February, they were thrown a curve ball from the COVID-19 situation and had to cut their silver anniversary season short and eliminate the spring season.
The Field of Dreams underwent its annual infield and outfield makeover to make the field ready for play on Oct. 24. In addition, the PCSSA developed and implemented a set of protocols that players and fans would need to adhere to in order to keep everyone safe from this virus.
Opening day was a little bit different this year because of the virus. Only the two teams scheduled to play the first game of the day were allowed on the field for the opening ceremonies. Board members were introduced by PCSSA President Dawn Hangen. The invocation was given by Steve Fletcher, and the National Anthem was played via tape. Our thanks to Mike Donahue for providing the tape and sound system.
Then the words that every ballplayer has been waiting to hear since February were shouted loud and clear, “Play ball!”
