On Saturday, December 29 a group of PebbleCreek Senior Softball (PCSSA) players gathered at the field to prepare the field for the resumption of play on January 5, 2019.
After almost a two-week hiatus, the players and the field are ready to get back into shape to resume play. Contrary to popular belief, our Field of Dreams does not maintain itself. It does require physical labor to remove any weeds around the warning track and down the base lines, giving the bases a fresh coat of paint, ensuring that the scoreboard is functioning properly and preparing the infield (especially around the area that the shortstops occupy). The shortstops are very particular as to how their area should be groomed. In addition to the shortstop area, the rest of the infield is also taken care of to remove any excuses that an infielder may have for missing a ground ball. Trust me, if an infielder misses a ground ball, they will hear about it from the outfielders.
As in any organization, you have workers and you have “straw bosses.” A straw boss is an individual that has some responsibility but little authority. Look at the photo and you will see who the workers are and, of course, our group of straw bosses.
