On Wednesday, April 22 the PebbleCreek Men’s Golf Association provided several Member/Guest pre-tournament activities. The activities included the TaylorMade/Adidas/Ashworth Pro Shop, practice rounds and a skills contest just like the one on the Golf Channel’s Big Break program.
The skills event consisted of three separate challenges: a nine hole putting contest (member and guest alternated putts), a flop shot “over the wall” and a target shot. The object was to get the lowest score. There were prizes for each challenge and for overall.
The putting course was set up very different this year. Director of Golf Jason Whitehill suggested the use of rocks, tree branches and sand piles to make the course more challenging.
The flop shot required the player to skillfully fly his ball over a 10 foot wall onto the green within the target zone. The best score was zero points for landing in the center of the bull’s-eye. The highest score was 50 points for not carrying the wall. Most players scored 40 points for carrying the wall, but landing outside the target zone.
The final challenge was the target shot. From 15 yards, the player had to hit a yellow metal square that was located inside a green metal target. The player scored zero points for hitting the yellow target. The highest score was 50 points for missing the entire green target altogether.
