PCM9GA hosts joint Falcon Dunes golfing event

Erv Stein

For several years now our PCM9GA group has hosted typically four off campus golfing events during the annual October closure of our own PebbleCreek courses for the fall overseeding. This year we have scheduled a total of four events beginning with our just completed October 9 event followed by Tres Rios on October 15, Coyote Lakes on October 23 and Coldwater on October 30. The Falcon Dunes event was extraordinarily successful for a number of reasons, including the optimum cloud cover which made the weather cool and lastly and most important, the awesome facility aesthetics of the Falcon Dunes Golf Course. Falcon Dunes is an integral part of Luke Air Force Base and fortunately, a few of our PCM9GA members as retired senior military officers qualified us for the use of their quite magnificent facilities.

The PCM9GA, led by Ray Clements, PCM9GA President did their usual super job in coordinating this event and also made this 18 hole event more interesting by inviting a number of low handicap excellent PCMGA golfers to participate. As it turns out your author of this article, who may have a good golf day or a day of total funk and frustration, just happened to have the rare privilege of being in the same foursome with Howie Tiger and Bill Schaffer as well as Gary Draus who happens to also be an outstanding low handicap PCM9GA golfer. All of us, including my foursome simply had a terrific time golfing on this quite challenging but simply awesome golf course and I offered my appreciation to the other foursome members for their patience and understanding in tolerating the seemingly zillions of strokes I took on a few holes.

Following the event we all enjoyed our included lunch at the Falcon Dunes dining facility and Ray Clements announced the Closest to Pin Winners who were Gary Draus, Bill Schaffer, Dick Atwater and Bruce Hulbert.

In addition to our busy PCM9GA fall season with the four off campus events, our annual Holiday Party is scheduled for Friday, December 6 and our Turf Paradise Racing Event outing will be held on January 19.

The PCM9GA group, now close to 270 members strong, has a truly awesome membership role largely comprised of easy going and fun loving golfers and welcomes new members at all skill levels. For new members the cost will be $50 but will cover all dues for the remainder of 2014 as well as 2015. The standard full year membership renewal dues are $50 which includes fees for the AGA membership which is essential for handicap reporting.
