On August 9, 2016 a summer tournament called Sizzling Surprise was held by the PCLGA at Eagle’s Nest followed by a salad bar luncheon in the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom. Forty-eight ladies braved the sizzling and humid elements in flighted teams, playing a different format on each hole. One hole was two net best ball with cart drivers as partners and riders as partners. One hole was “Where is the Flag?” The trick was, there was no flag. Instead, three holes were cut and players could putt to the hole of their choice, counting three players’ putts for their team score. In another instance, the golfers played a cross country scramble, teeing off on No. 16 but holing out on No. 17. And even Mother Nature provided her own surprise with heavy rain pouring sideways. Most were already in when the storm came; a few were caught in it and all were lucky to finish.
The event was chaired by Sharon Dawe, Carol Langhardt and Char Held. These ladies know how to put not only the sizzle but the fun into golf as well! A big thank you goes out to Bud Held who provided cold cloths and popsicles to help the ladies tolerate the heat.
The winners of the three flights were as follows:
Flight 1: Two teams tied for first place: Chanca Morrell, Patty Brown, Char Held, Carolyn Suttles; Kittie Day, Debbie Sayre, Donna Havener, Barb Chilton
Flight 2: First place: Susan Bentson, Claudia Tiger, Carol Taylor, Pat Smith; Second place: Bobbie Jepsen, Jane Richards, Jane Wiederhold, Karen Uherchik
Flight 3: First place: Ruth Vohs, Marilyn Hoffman, Bonnie Stuto, Judi Floyd; Second place: Suzan Simons, Sharon Dawe, Mary Rollins, Mary Lou Cralle
Congratulations, ladies!
